The Tor to Tor is the most incredible riding experience I have ever had. The horses are well cared for, fit hunter types and the Liberty Trails team work hard to pair you up and prepare every detail to make your stay and ride with them, second to none. Elaine and the team are all very warm, friendly and experienced when it comes to greeting the group, settling in for lunch and coffee breaks on the moor and guiding you across Dartmoor expertly. Bovey Castle is an incredible place to stay and the food and setting make you feel really treated! I’ll be booking again!
Tor to Tor was an amazing 3 day and 4 night riding trip to the beautiful Dartmoor national park. The staff was so welcoming and everyone was so giddy about this trip. We were all experienced riders and it was so easy to find friend from our group. The horses were lovely to ride and the matches between horses and riders were well thought of. We did a lot of speedy canters an relaxed walks. The food was great and it was all so well organized. Travelling to Dartmoor was easy by train from Heathrow airport. You should absolutely go and see Dartmoor with Liberty Trails!
Incredible experience on the Tor-to-Tor. Everything was so well planned out. The horses were truly amazing - fit, forward and not too fizzy! What a great job they do keeping those horses tip top. They never ran out of steam! Elaine took time to match riders to horses pre trip…which perhaps is done too well as I think we’d have all happily bought our rides after the three days! I could have taken any of them home! The routes were varied and all incredible, lots of canters. I really felt we explored most of Dartmoor! Fantastic guiding from Di, Amy, Michelle and Fenella. I felt in safe hands, incredible knowledge of Dartmoor and I enjoyed the Dartmoor tales on route. The weather was wild at times but it did not dampen spirits. Tea and cake breaks on route were very welcome. Great accommodation and food too. Such a great group of people, lots of laughter. Thank you Elaine and team for such a special trip. My only concern is the bar has been set far too high for all future trips!
We had a fairy-tale experience with Liberty Trails! Elaine and Bob were so welcoming and kind. They prepared an entire itinerary full of excitement and surprises—from a picnic to a horse-drawn carriage ride. Elaine and Bob went the extra mile in every way, from taking pictures to making sure the trip ran smoothly. I definitely recommend Liberty Trails to anyone visiting the area.
I've ridden with Liberty Trails twice, and both were outstanding riding vacations with first class horses and service. Dartmoor National Park and the surrounding area of England is stunning and the staff at Liberty Trails ensure the visit is everything you've ever dreamed of and moor (pun intended). The memories will last a lifetime and another ride with them is on my list!
Fantastic experience riding the Dartmoor with Liberty Trails. Elaine, Bob, Lucy and the crew paid very close attention to all details. My horse was reliable, sturdy and a terrific mount. He paid close attention to my seat, hands and voice. The saddle was very comfortable and all horses were immaculately turned out with clean tack. All horses were very fit, fed and groomed. The caterers were very handsome, courteous and provided exquisite meals, yummy wine and interesting cocktails. The treks we did were very interesting and varied through wild flowers, heather, rock outcrops, historical markers and prehistoric relics. We rode through streams, up large hills and grasslands. Saw the wild horses of the Dartmoor, sheep, and cattle. My only complaint about the trip was the shuffling around to a different Inn every night but the last night we stayed at the same Inn as per request from one of the guest. Elaine has really paid attention to the details of providing you the best experience. This is definitely a bucket list item and I highly recommend it! My daughter and I had a brilliant day riding on Dartmoor with Liberty Trails. From the personalised visit to understand our needs and drop off equipment the night before the ride, to the seamless logistics enabling two riders of different ability to both have a personalised experience with well matched and fit horses, to the very civilised lunch on the moor, complete with a lovely glass of port to top it all off at the end of the day. Couldn't have asked for a better days riding. I felt like Kate Bush in a Wuthering Heights video (I know a different location, but you get the idea) - wind in the hair, riding through the moors - brilliant!! Highly recommend.
Liberty Trails is the genuine article. They have quality horses that are well trained and in phenomenal shape. Their attention to detail is superb and the execution seamless. And on top of all this, they are just really nice people - unpretentious, caring, fun, and kind. Riding on Dartmoor is an experience not to be missed. You will never forget it. The landscapes are breathtaking and there is no better way to see it than from the back of a horse. This is no plodding trail ride. You gallop up every hill and cross the landscape at whatever pace suits you, including ground-eating trots and pleasant canters. Your horse will be enjoying himself almost as much as you will! Punctuating the undulating hills are rocky Tors, oodles of sheep, delightful wild ponies, and cattle, including some long-haired and long-horned Scottish Highland cattle. Whatever you can dream up, Liberty Trails will make happen if it's at all possible. And don't miss the opportunity to learn some falconry skills with the falconer at Bovey Castle. It's a rare chance to spend time with amazing birds of prey in the company of someone who has devoted a large portion of his life to them. Just go. You won't regret it.
Truly amazing couple of days...beautiful Dartmoor, superb horses and unrivalled hospitality. Elaine, Bob and Rachel - thank you so much! I went with my daughter (aged 11 yrs) one of the the youngest riders Liberty Trails have had - we had a magical time together and with the team. Loved it! Want to go back.
