Have to give 5 ⭐ to the security! Somebody hit me and they reacted so promptly was superbly assuring and checked on me so many times. Really well done. Can't see how anyone wouldn't feel completely safe there.
We entered this pub because it was advertised as LGBTQ+ friendly. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. When leaving, we accidentally went out through an emergency exit. We genuinely did not know it was an emergency door. In many Irish pubs, doors simply say “push,” and there was no clear indication for us that this was not a normal exit. A female security guard aggressively confronted us. Instead of explaining the situation calmly, her attitude was hostile and unnecessary. We decided to leave and go to another pub, but the situation escalated further. The security guard followed us, ran after us, and physically pushed us. She then spoke to the bartenders to make sure we would not be served, which felt completely inappropriate and intimidating. For a place that claims to be LGBTQ+ friendly, this behavior was unacceptable. We felt uncomfortable, unwelcome, and unfairly treated. Respect and safety should apply to everyone, especially in spaces that promote inclusivity.
I never review places but I actually took the name of the head of security Jake just to write this! Honestly that man isn’t paid enough; makes everyone feels super safe! Proper friendly. All the staff there are amazing. One of the best places in Belfast
As gay bars and drag shows go, this was an amazing experience. All the patrons and staff were very friendly and the security were on hand to keep things feeling safe. Highly recommend catching a drag show and enjoying the atmosphere.
Belfast visitor here. International. Wanted to find a LGBT place to have a drink, stumbled into this establishment. Mostly women, which is fine, and a drag show/karaoke/lip synch going on. They have speciality cocktails. I ordered a Bounty Hunter and OMG, it was delicious! I wish I had stayed for another drink but I wanted to check out another place across the street, which I totally regret doing (see my other review). I definitely loved the cocktail here, including the wonderful cup it came in.
If I could rate lower than a 1 I would. Wouldn't let us in. Clearly had an issue with our group for no reason other than the fact we were a group of girls and didn't follow stereotypes. The woman on the door singled us out and let people in behind us. I've never been made to feel more isolated in a place which is meant to welcome the gay community. Don't bother going if you aren't willing to queue for 10 hours and be made to feel the same disappointment of coming out to a homophobic family member.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Door staff super helpful as our first time in the city and they recommended places for us
Good night until unfortunately the man with short blonde hair threw the only group of lesbians out of the bar for having ‘too many drinks’. Many of the group were sober. We made the point that many of the men had more drinks than we had but were laughed at. Sadly a place not for lesbians or queers, only gays
If I could give 0 stars I would. Friend group got turned down twice in a row over absolutely nothing. LGBT-friendly group, super respectful. But they were extremely petty at the door. Some of us were even regulars in the past. Don’t give these guys the business as they don’t deserve it.
I came to The Maverick for the first time on a Monday night yesterday. I was so please to find an inclusive space with lots going on. I lost my phone half way through the evening and the door staff were so kind, helpful and thorough. They found it within 10 mins. Great entertainment, amazing people. Thank you x
