Extremely disappointing – seek a second opinion We have three dogs registered with Medivet Alfreton and have only ever attended for routine vaccinations. Our recent experience, however, has completely destroyed our trust in this practice. Our Bedlington Terrier started showing worrying symptoms. We suspected Cushing’s disease and mentioned this when speaking with the vet. Blood tests showed raised liver enzymes and we were advised to proceed with an X-ray, which showed his liver was completely normal. Despite this, we were then advised to go ahead with a liver biopsy — an invasive procedure we were not prepared to put our dog through, especially after a clear X-ray. After we shared our concerns about the procedure with the vet we were told to go home and monitor his condition. Unhappy with the outcome, we sought a second opinion at an independent local vet. Using simple, non-invasive blood tests, they found his cortisol levels were three times higher than normal. Within 72 hours he was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and started on medication. The contrast in care was alarming. This experience left us feeling that unnecessary procedures and cost were being prioritised over appropriate diagnosis. We would strongly advise others to seek a second opinion before agreeing to invasive tests here.

Thank you for ensuring that our dear Casey (11) was treated like the queen that she was and that her last moments were that of peace and comfort as she headed over the rainbow bridge. We miss her dearly, but will be taking her ashes back to SA to spread on her favourite beach, Kommetjie, along with her brothers ashes Max (7 yrs old). Thank you Medivet

From arriving early morning to leaving early evening the service was exemplary. Took my Kitten Belle to be spayed and all the staff were extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough to make a stressful day more manageable. Well done all!

Visit with 15 year old chihuahua Mowglie to see Tom for general check up and eye test. As always reception staff friendly and efficient. Tom was pleasant as always, chatty, asking about all the crew. Full exam of Mowglie, a good chat and advice provided. Excellent as always.

Amazing service, organised & professional throughout, from calling for an appointment to surgery being done to home and recovering less than 24hrs… My little Betsie is much better today… all thanks to the wonderful staff that has looked after her.

A big Thank You to all the Staff at Alfreton for all you've done for our Beautiful Boy Milo. (Especially Dr Babs Ingram) Thanks to you all, we managed to get almost another 2 years extra with our Dog since he first had his heart problems. (He even got to the Beach & Woods again) Much appreciated Love from, Angela & Andrew Prince & Baer xxx

We have used this vet for our personal pets and for wildlife. The vets are kind and knowledgable, but this practice seems very, very money orientated. Just be aware.

Really good impression as it was my dog's first visit. The vet was great and very understanding and made sure my pet was safe and relaxed. Highly recommended!

Fantastic with my elderly staffing. He can't be around other dogs and the practise went above and beyond to ensure my boy was comfortable and felt safe. Staff were very friendly and helpful

I do not recommend anyone who loves their pets. I lost my dog because of their bad diagnostics and ignorance, going to vet with a problem expects help from a doctor, not partly I have to be a doctor and tell them what to do, they only extort money. IF you have a pet in medivet run away from there or you will lose your pet and your money
