Pre Christmas meal with our granddaughter. Cosy setting and main courses nice. Unfortunately table service was poor and we ran out of time to order desserts. By comparison our lunch on Wednesday was excellent all round.

What a find! Walked in on a Sunday to see if they had a table for 6. The staff were very accommodating and managed to find us a spot in "The Smithy " which was outside but under cover. I had the Roast Pressed Shoulder of Lamb which was so tasty. Also ordered a side of Cauliflower Cheese - best I've ever had (largely down to the use of Sussex Charmer Cheddar - yum). Nice quiet location too. Hope to return one day. A big thank you too everyone there.

The Plough Inn is a wonderful pub within the very pretty village of Rottingdean. The menu offered some great options something to cater for all tastebuds, with some superb classic dishes from fish pie, bangers and mash or fish and chips to mention a few. We opted for the later and really enjoyed the dishes we received. The prices were reasonable and the staff were very welcoming to all patrons and visitors passing through. There was a small bear garden, however the village lake is adjacent and locals were taking their drinks out and sitting around the lake enjoying the sunshine and local views. The venue itself is a beautifully rich with the warmth of the lovely wood panelling carefully paired with tasteful pictures a great local to enjoy a drink or visit for food. Either way, you won’t leave disappointed.

We (husband wife and 5 y.o) had a fantastic time here. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I think their names were Christina and Izzy? Anyway, very nice. We had the fish and chips and it is honestly the tastiest I've ever had, even beats our favourite fish and chip shop. The fish was chunky and fleshy and very fresh. The home made tartare sauce was incredible, I don't usually eat it, but I had a whole small pot of it. The locals were very inviting and nice to talk to (thank you Frank). The location is great, adjacent to a delightful reasonably sized pond, complete with a variety of ducks/wild birds. Dogs are welcome in the pub too. Would highly recommend this to anyone in the area, or planning on a stop if passing through. Would certainly visit again.

Lovely little pub positioned at the top end of Rottingdean. The decor is great and has a comfortable feeling about it. It also has a lovely pub garden. Great food menu choices. There is also a great selection of beers and wine. I can personally recommend the Sunday roast it was excellent. Service was excellent and attentive. Highly recommended.

The food was of quality, delicious beef rib and chuck burgers, we also had the gnocchi which was so creamy and Absolutely delicious! Lovely bottle of Shiraz wine from South Africa! 100% recommended this beautiful and VERY clean pub! Thank you for such lovely service and quality food.

We booked a table for a Christmas meal weeks in advance. When we arrived, we were told that our table was outside(!) despite the temperature being -2 degrees at the time. We were eventually given an indoor table but then were told that we should've pre-ordered food if we wanted the Christmas menu, which was not communicated at any stage during booking. Staff were standoffish and made no apologies at all. It was a very awkward atmosphere and so we left. I honestly couldn't recommend this pub and won't be returning.

Booking online was easy for a Sunday lunchtime for 4. We had a table by a window. Service was swift and the roasts (beef, pork, lamb, and veggie wellington) were all good. Well cooked, presented and tasty. Up to this point would have been 5 stars. One party member decided to have pudding. His menu choice was not available so was offered eaton mess. What came was a lot of crumbled meringue, 2 or 3 halves of strawberry, a smearing of strawberry sauce and a few spots of cream. Not worth the £8 or so charged. And when this was pointed out at the end of the meal, the member of staff showed little interest. Although then agreed but did nothing to put it right. A shame when the rest of the meal had been so good.

Four of us met here for lunch last Wednesday. One seemed to enjoy her sea bass, the rest of us found our meals expensive and very poor indeed -- small amounts and tasteless. I'm no cook, but I would have been ashamed to offer anyone such food. We were not surprised that the place was virtually empty over lunchtime.
