Food was good. Typically priced for Brighton. The Irish coffees needed some alcohol as they were weak. Management gave us some shots to improve them. A pleasant experience overall but decor and toilet tired.

We made the mistake of spending the weekend in Brighton a couple of weeks ago and not booking a restaurant for the Saturday evening. After a few restaurant knocks backs as they were full and looking endlessly at online bookings, we (2 couples) came across Gars, looked at the menu, asked if they could accommodate us, and they said of course. It was absolutely delicious, the food was outstanding, the atmosphere was fantastic, we got chatting with some other diners and they said the food was great too. Sasha the host was amazing, from start to finish. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, absolutely fantastic. 5 STARS all round.

Food was absolutely amazing, went in for my mates 50th. Instantly the lady was welcoming and friendly. Service was great, and then when our food arrived I was blown away by the flavours, it was definitely the best Chinese we’ve ever had. Everyone left feeling happy. They even brought out a dessert for the birthday boy, and topped off with a shot. Thank you we will be back

A lovely spot we didn’t even know was going to be the treasure it was! Although more expensive than some (those Brighton prices), the food was to die for and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a top-tier experience. If you’re wanting some delicious Chinese food or a takeaway for the ages, try Gars! Photos featuring salt & pepper chicken, chicken chow mein, melt-in-your-mouth crispy pork bao bun, and in the background a fall-off-the-bone BBQ rib. Not to mention the leftovers!

We enjoyed our visit very much. Everyone chose a different dish option, but the standout dish was definitely the Peking duck with plum sauce, which we shared as a mid course between the 3 of us. BBQ ribs were tender and juicy, sweetcorn soup tasty and pork belly cooked really well. Attentive service, nice selection of wines, side dishes quite large, no need to over order. The traditional music felt a little "sleepy" at times, but that is only a personal opinion. Would return and recommend.

Started dating a guy couple of weeks before this and previously had a running joke we’d tried and failed to have a Chinese meal the few short times we get to meet up. My bf booked this for us as a little surprise and turned out to be a fabulous experience. The gentleman server (quite possibly an owner and/or manager) was friendly and a delight to deal with throughout and the food was top notch. Starters arrived promptly and boiling hot. Both the pork dumplings and the salt, pepper and chilli king prawns were well presented and tasty. Followed up by crispy duck which again was well presented and delicious. I had chicken with ginger and spring onion and my bf had Cantonese duck. Steamed and egg fried rice between us too. Again well presented and delicious food. Not a single complaint and I tried both mains. And although he insisted on paying I don’t recall it being stupidly priced either considering he had some Prosecco and I had a couple of cokes. Tasty food. Well presented. Helpful friendly staff. Highly recommended. No wonder this place has been serving Brighton since 1983. As this was our first official date as a couple we might have to make at least annual if not more regular visits.

Nicely decorated good atmosphere food quality does not match the restaurant. I ordered the duck and egg fried rice literally that was what I got no veg nothing all lacked flavour. My friend had prawns in ginger spring onions again my friend said it was lacking flavour the food was like warm for both meals. However staff were very pleasant and attentive
