We arrived on an early sunday evening and it was busy. However the host (possibly a manager) she kindly acknowledged me and advised she would be with me shortly. Soon after she returned and was able to accommodate our walk in table request for 3 people and a dog. She was very friendly and welcoming. I think there is just one room where dogs can sit but the room was very pleasant with all the Christmas decorations and fairly lights. Our table was by the fire which was nice and they kindly lit it for us on request. The gentleman who served us was very pleasant and friendly. Possibly a manager ( sorry I didn't get his name) but he was dressed different to the other staff and he was very accommodating getting water for the dog etc. The food was delicious and a decent size, we all had Sunday roasts and they were excellent. Beautifully presented and very tasty. They even kindly let my mum have the kids version as due to dietary issues she can't eat too much. This place has a lovely ambience, all the staff were very friendly and pleasant, even fellow customers were friendly. There was a big table near us that were no trouble and seemed nice but as they were quite drunk they were very loud and even swearing quite a bit which isn't ideal when trying to enjoy a relaxing meal but it didn't spoil our meal at all we just decided to have the coffee and desert at home in a bit more peace :-) We live nearby and having passed by many times we always thought how nice it looked from the outside so we had wanted to visit for a while. I am so glad we finally did and we all said how lovely it was inside and that we would definitely return based on this visit. Delicious food, average prices, lovely, friendly staff and a cosy welcoming atmosphere, what more could you ask for. Thank you to the guy who looked after us so well, he was very pleasant and made us feel very welcome.

Nice choice of food but chunky chips are oven chips not the triple cooked beauties that I like. The pies and lasagna was very nice indeed. Shame about the chips. However mother had fries which were very nice she said. Friendly staff and good service beer was nice too.

Came here for my sisters birthday. I often order from either the small plate or children's menu due to dietary requirements, I was refused this despite explaining said dietary issues forcing me to pay double what I usually would. My sister ordered her starter to be told "it's not on the menu", she had to point it out on their menu in front of our server before they would let her order it. The starter my brother ordered, we were told they had none (not entirely sure if we xould believe this though given my sisters experience). Our food was brought to us after an hour and 20 minutes, they gave me the meat meal when I ordered the vegetarian, the chili con carne was more chili peppers than anything and the portion for the cost is downright shameful. We also had to wait a long time for a server to actually come and take our order in the first place. The cosy atmosphere is literally the ONLY saving grace of the evening. The pub puts events on every so often which are very good, but I definitely wouldn't return for any kind of meal, never mind a celebration one.

Can't recommend this place highly enough. Everything you want in a traditional pub. Impressive food, decent wine, dog friendly, beautiful building, great decor, special history, and extremely friendly and helpful staff who can't do enough for you. Plus very nicely located for some great walks.

Wow what a building. Stunning. Fab menu. I had katsu chicken main and my partner had a bbq chicken burger. Delish. Friendly efficient staff. Think a Sunday lunch might be our next visit. Dog/pug friendly. Back today 06/11 for Sunday dinner. Gorgeous. Nice gravy and roasties. All the trimmings. Will be booking again.

Well what an amazing meal… Service was spot on, even with a Wake happening and it being Easter Holidays. Food order arrived quickly, and portions were unbelievably… The Gammon was almost an 1” thick, and the Double Burger was so so tasty. Will definitely be back next time we visit the area again.
