Disappointed. I ordered a vegetable falafel roll thing. See photos above. The under side was quite burnt. Had the unmistakable flavour of burnt pastry depsite the butternut squash filling being nice. The tables were also messy with uncleared plates. Good potential but execution seems messy.
Don’t get me wrong this coffee shop is a gem… it is excellently located, and the quality of coffee/ingredients used surpass the standards of neighbouring establishments. That said the service, cleanliness and general tenacity of the staff could be boosted to say the least. There are enough crumbs on the floor to entice Hansel and Gretel. Every unoccupied table bar one looked like something of a pigeons dream and despite my asking to clean the table they insisted on doing it themselves, then proceeded to forget. That said it was the huffs, puffs and reluctance that truly invoked this review. I would suggest a takeaway or perhaps bring your own cloth and detergent. Peace.
At The Roastery, there’s a cup that stops you in your tracks. Green Monkey. Dark, rich, and a little wild. Bitter chocolate running deep, velvet on the tongue, a roast that tastes like coffee the way coffee should be— no frills, just heaven in a cup. Sip it slow, or let it jolt you awake. Either way, it’s the best.
Do you remember when this used to be a cyber dog? Felt so cool when they first opened. Alas it is now another bog standard Brighton coffee shop. Plenty of space, perfectly nice iced hot chocolate, and they stay open late but have no wifi :(
Went in this morning for a coffee to break up our wonderful experience in The Laines. We ordered our coffee and waited about 25 minutes. Unfortunately or fortunately my daughter spied the barista picking his nose surveying the result and then proceeding to gobble up the contents. My daughter, who suffers from OCD, was visibly shaken . We requested a full refund, and without a question, this was granted. Perhaps this is common practice in this establishment. Please can these members of staff be spoken to about hygiene. I worry for the people of Brighton!

Stopped by for a bite to eat and a delicious coffee. I opted for the Green Monkey roast Macchiato and a delicious sausage roll. My partner went for a pot of tea and a cheddar / marmite toastie. We couldn’t leave without taking a pouch of the Christmas Special Polar Espresso blend which they kindly ground and resealed for me. Can’t wait to try it at home. Great environment with plenty of seating inside and out, right in the middle of Sydney Street laine.
Nice place to get a coffee either take away or stay in . But they don't accept cash
My favourite coffee shop in the North Laine. The sublime coffee which is roasted onsite is only surpassed by the consummate professionalism of the staff! Would thoroughly recommend for anyone visiting Brighton.
