Had a very weird experience in store on Friday 5th December. Was using the self service checkout and tend to use this service when shopping in supermarkets etc , when a staff member said to me not all items were registering on the till even though as I was scanning the item the till made a beep. Generally , before I proceed to pay I check the items on the screen. Behind me was also a mature female staff member who intervened aggressively. I was made to feel I was intentionally scanning items quickly so it was not registering , which was not the case. It appears there is a delay between scanning an item and the system registering it. Also, as I was leaving the female staff member said into a microphone or something attached to her jumper something along the lines of customer leaving self service checkout. As I left the store I asked myself what has just happened and drove home very confused. There is obviously an issue with their self service checkout system and I’m posting this as I do not want another customer to be made to feel how I was.The aggressive manner of the mature female staff member in red Christmas jumper towards me was unacceptable.

A lovely store, very welcoming staff. Hand local great range of products available for most tastes. We need to continue to support local stores because of we do not, these places won't exist in the future

Check the expiry dates on everything you buy here. Just bought a small loaf of bread for £1.85 - it didn't feel fresh, so I checked the date - use by yesterday! Standard for this shop - they don't remove out of date food. 2 stars for reasonably priced cigs.

The Sussex Grocer in Hassocks is a great little shop — always well stocked with a good mix of essentials and local produce. Prices are very reasonable too, especially for the quality. Staff are friendly and it’s just a really handy place to have in the village.

Beautifully maintained shop!!!! Excellent customer service and fabulous range of products. The only downside is that is a bit pricey compared to other similar stores.

Decent supermarket selling a good amount of local produce from nearby villages which is a refreshing change to some of the bigger chains. Good selection of quality products available albeit not the cheapest place to shop. Staff are very polite and helpful in my experience.

Good local supermarket with a good selection for the size. Also sells local products (eggs from local farms, local beers and wines, locally sourced meats, etc...) Which is great

I have used Budgens in Hassocks recently because I discovered that they sell a number of locally made products along with a massive range of other goods. It is a breath of fresh air compared to the huge sterile supermarket chains. I have recently become disabled and have to use a stick, there is a suitable parking space right outside the entrance, brilliant! However, this evening when I arrived at the store , I was made to feel very unwelcome. I did not have a £1 coin to be able to use a trolley. I did have a £2 coin and asked one of the male members of staff if he could change it for me into 2 x £1 coins. I was then taken aback! He very reluctantly took my £2 coin , gave me the 2 x £1 coins & very aggressively told me that he wanted to warn me that he wouldn’t normally do this! . His remarks were so unexpected that I was speechless! How could I shop without a trolley? I apologise for not having a £1 coin! I nevertheless did my shop, spending £91. The checkout Lady, Wendy, was extremely helpful, she packed my bags with great care, Thank you ! I don’t understand why the policy is not to give change for the use of a trolley which encourages shopping. I don’t have to use a coin for a trolley at Tesco. If I realise that I do not have a suitable coin in the future I will use them. Shame about the attitude of your Staff member.

Great mini supermarket offering a wide selection of local produce including local farm eggs, bread, meats and other items. I much preferred to shop here on my recent weekend away compared to the Sainsbury's down the road. They also have a refill station with a wide variety of foods, hot food, tango ice blast and even a milkshake machine!

Good prices, you can find almost everything you like here. A big store for a small town but it's worth shopping here. Staff verry friendly eager to help you if you have any questions. Everything is clean no mess like other shops. First time here and i recomend the place. Also the food is fresh so is the fruit and vegetables.
