Superb place for a family party. Homely, warm, massive portions. Attentive service. Not cheap but you pay for what you get. Quality meat. Only down sides. Hard to raise to book. And cold toilets, back room in need of renovation.

We celebrated my daughters 20th birthday the weekend before Christmas. We booked a table for 10 at 4.30pm which turned out to be a perfect time to arrive as the lunch rush was ending and was before the evening started. The food and service was amazing, we could not fault either. I think it goes down as the best bit of fillet steak I have ever had and the chips were fantastic! I was however slightly disapointed that we were not offered the deposit (£15 p/h) back for 2 people who due to ill health had to miss the meal. Dont get me wrong I understand this is the peak of any hospitality year but 8 of us ate and drank well and there were a few unoccupied tables due to the time of day. We did ask when we cancelled 2 seats 5 days before but were refused. Only other negative is parking as for the size of the pub it is very limited. We will however be back without a shadow of a doubt!! Thank you.

I stayed here for the night whilst working away, what a great place! The bar/restaurant downstairs was absolutely packed, and on a Tuesday night too!! Which can only be a good sign in my opinion. I didn't eat here, as I was unaware of how busy it would be, but the food did look quality, with generous portion sizes too from what I saw being brought out. The room I stayed in was lovely, very cosy and had lots of character, it had a large comfy bed, andnfrwe WIFI, even the en suite was lovely, it had a freestanding ball and claw foot bath. I would make a special trip to visit her again, I really enjoyed my stay here, ecen it was only for 1 night.

My wife and i stayed here with our dog. It's a brilliant place but it's slightly misleading. I'll start with the positives, which there are many. The staff are brilliant, the food is first class, it's good value, rooms are spotless, the location is good, the menu is extensive, which all makes it a brilliant restaurant. Now for the negatives. It's definitely not a pub, it's not great for dogs, it's hot, it's busy and you may struggle to get a parking space. Because it's so good, it's very popular which is why it is busy. If a pint up the bar is what you are after this is not the place. If you want excellent food and service then look no further.

We had a really lovely meal, as we always do. Staff helpful and service is quick. The only complaint we'd have is that we were seated in the small dining room which accommodates two tables of 8. When occupied this can be really noisy. At times we struggled to hear each other. This is the second time I've encountered this issue. In future I will ask to be seated in the main dining area.

A lovely restaurant, the food was presented beautifully and tasted excellent. Good value for money. Parking was a bit packed but to be expected from such an excellent restaurant. Did feel a tad rushed with the service at times but the staff were pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was quite busy and loud but again this is likely due to the quality of service and food. Would recommend to all friends and family.

Fabulous meal at this busy but cosy pub. It's one of a small group of pubs, all of which are amazing so although I hadn't eaten there for several years I knew I would not be disappointed! Portions are extremely generous and they happily pack up any leftovers if asked, so dinner tonight is sorted! The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our server was a young lad, didn't ask his name, but he was cheery, cheeky, polite, professional and just added completely to the experience. A great choice of dishes, varying meats, flavours, cultures. Several fish dishes and good dietary accommodating options too. The dessert menu was delicious, there were about five I wanted to try! Only one dairy free option which my friend couldn't have as it was not something she liked, so a couple more vegan desserts would have been good. Parking is available and plentiful but as the place can get busy, you can park across the road in the evening if needs. Absolutely recommend. Also advise booking in advance for meals as they seem busy all day.

Ample parking. Ambience acceptable although ceilings were typically low. Outdoor seating available. Food and drink orders were taken promptly and food was served without too long a wait despite the restaurant being almost full. The servings were generous. The seafood chowder was slightly salty. The haddock had more potato than fish! The ribs were good, tasty and tender. The Chilean Wine suggested was reasonable.

The staff are extremely friendly. They recognise their regulars and remember what regulars drink. The food was faultless. I had the roast beef and it wad cooked to perfection for me. My friends had a selection battered fish. I have never seen such light batter. The food was reasonably priced for the amount we had. Booking is advisable as the RS is very popular.

Went for evening meal out with family. Great menu with lots of choice, I had steak and kidney pudding which was best ever - would recommend missing starter to properly enjoy! Despite venue being really busy, starters out within 10 minutes and mains really quickly after starters. Vegetarian options available but fairly limited. Friendly and helpful staff, and portion sizes really generous. Highly recommend for a great night out.
