This used to be an old world pub serving fantastic food hadn't been for yrs so decided to call in . Yes it's been done up nicely but it's taken away the atmosphere .saying that it was packed so obviously it's to some or a lot of people's taste . Food was edible and hot but again to me just basic !

A lovely pub, however the food wasn’t good today and seems to have changed. It took a long time to come and when it did it was cold and very bland.. Had to send 3 of 6 plates back which then took a while and the others had finished by the time the others arrived again.. They were apologetic and reduced the bill slightly, but ‘very’ unremarkable food.. Shame as we do like the pub, be a while before we consider it for food again..

Went on a Wednesday evening & the fish & chips was on offer, absolutely delicious as was the cheesy garlic bread. Great service by our waitress (didn’t get her name) & the atmosphere in the pub was lovely. Would recommend & I’d definitely go again.

Extremely dog-friendly pub with extremely friendly staff and locals. Our pooch was offered a huge water bowl, many biscuity treats and tons of fuss. It makes a difference when you enter a pub and dogs are allowed in every area with no restrictions. The bonus was that the food was top notch! Due to it being December when we visited, you did have to pre-order prior to arrival as to whether you wanted to order from their Christmas menu or their usual menu. A fairly full pub meant that we did have to wait 30 minutes for our starters but 15% was deducted from the final bill because of this and the cosy surroundings meant that we were comfortable waiting.

We booked for tea on fish and chip Wednesday. Two adults and our granddaughter. The bar area was a little busy when we walked in, but the young guy behind the bar went out of his way to make us feel very welcome. Service was great, attention to detail and the food arrived quickly. Excellent crispy fish and chips and just the right portions for us. Our granddaughter had the fudge cake for pudding, which she loved. Can't beat Robinson's beer, relaxed atmosphere when we were there at 5:30. Thanks again, we'll be back. Definitely recommend.

We called in for the first time this afternoon and were made very welcome by the young man behind the bar. My wife has mobility issues and it's good to find such a friendly and welcoming pub. Great menu with all the usuals plus some different options. Nice to have such a good choice and good beer. We really enjoyed our meals and will certainly return. Thanks

Stopped off for a pint and some food on Sunday night after spending the day at Oulton park and was told they stopped serving food so settled for a quick pint . The pub is very well presented , clean and welcoming . Also a pub quiz on later for a little bit of entertainment. Would like to recommend that they maybe offer cobs or snacks if customers are interested . Carl

While visiting friends in Chester we usually visit Tarporley. This was our first time in the Rising Sun. Will be back. Very good.

I had never heard of this place up until about 3 days ago when a family member states we were going for a meal there. Like most people, I had a look at the menu before hand and was pleasantly surprised at the choices and couldn't make my mind up what I wanted. It wasn't your chain style menu and you can tell thought had gone into it. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff who ensured we were all comfortable sat outside ( under a large tent style canopy with outdoor heaters all around) and had our drinks order in a rapid time. A spanner was thrown into the works when I noticed they had an additional menu for the "Smokermotive" which I found amazing. They offered a variety of smoked meat platters and at a very reasonable price. I chose the Loco Box with an assortment of meet, fries, cheese sauce and mayonnaise, and I'll tell you what... It was amazing! I don't know if it was because I was hungry or I just enjoyed it so much but it didn't touch the sides and I wolfed it all down. Highly recommended if it's available. Inside the pub was busy but still kept clean and orderly with the odd times were are currently in. Toilets were clean however only one cubicle in the men's and that's probably the only negative I can give this place. It is dog friendly as well so I will definitely be returning with my Dog and stuffing my face more. Really impressed with this gem and worth the trip from the surrounding areas as well.
