My partner had a 7 week stay on Riverside ward and I have to say the staff were absolutely brilliant with him and with us visiting family members. Just wanted to thank all involved in his care :)

They treated my husband like an animal before he was moved to another hospital. He was severly sunburnt and dehydrated when he was dragged in against his will. He was deprived of water when he was begging for a drink, he had a nurse dangle bacon infront of his face with a smirk while he was begging for food and he was deprived of a clock in the room his was kept in so he had no concept of time or knowledge of where he was. They wouldn't even tell him myself or our children were ok when he was begging to know if we were safe. They played some sick psychological head games with him. The mental health system is messed up and the nurses here saw my husband as less than human. You're the ones who should be on meds.

Shockingly neglectful 'care' : ignored by staff 24/7, no talking to anyone allowed but left with other dangerous patients with no supervision, overdosed with diazepam regularly, locked out of toilets, personal belongings stolen including a diamond ring, chanel no 5 perfume, laptop. Not believed by staff about circumstances. Safeguarding concerns completely ignored, from myself and from members of family. No dietary requirements adhered to, even for those patients in with eating disorders. Absolutely disgusting. Only got out because of my parents' medical knowledge and tenacity. Do not let anyone you know be an inpatient!!!

The burrows ward. A place where staff are unkind and distant. A place where patients get worse than before their admission. No understanding at all of eating disorders, no care. The staff make the patients feel like naughty kids and not young people struggling with life threading mental health issues. I was here for anorexia and my parents had to bring in the food every single day for me as the food they served would make any patient with an eating disorder relapse. I was bullied here by other patients and other people I know have reported physical fights and other inappropriate events occurring. Dietician was never around. Staff were disrespectful and would mock patients often doing impressions of them. I understand it can be hard to work in a mental health facility but the system in the burrows should have been perfected and tested before they started admitting patients. My parents feel guilt for having me stay there but I was sectioned so it’s not their fault. Night time is awful as agency staff come on to the shift and have no concept of our mental health conditions and forget important things and also there is a big language barrier which makes things even harder. Would sometimes leave you hurting yourself because they couldn’t be bothered to help, other patients would have to help instead. The only positive was one staff member called Lucy. Helpful, kind and genuinely caring

I was a patient here, mental health services are under so much pressure and all they get is negativity in the press. All I can say is this place saved my life and more importantly my sanity. NHS forever.

In for 9 days recently discharged to community care. Some staff care, some do not and are deeply unprofessional. Food is good and new ward matron was very good and took my complaints seriously and is looking into them and will liase again with me. Occupational therapy staff were fantastic but more activities are needed over the weekend. Medical staff good but always room for improvement. They did listen. Hope that you are never admitted to this place. On a previous admission i was assaulted by 2 night staff. I could have sued or gone to the press but did not. Patients tend to be kept in much longer than appropriate, leading to a worsening of their mental state. This needs to be looked into by management. I have also experienced inappropriate sectioning which was deeply upsetting. I was voluntarily admitted and when sectioned against my will i was taking prescribed meds and complying fully with care provided. I was def not a risk to myself or others. I was not at all suicidal. Also, they managed to lose my house keys which turned up days after my discharge. I had to get help to break in to my own home. Belatedly the ward matron offered to reimburse my costs of £90.

As a relative of a patient, I was left with a positive impression during visits over several weeks. Staff were patient, professional and willing to discuss issues. My relative was satisfied with his care, and with follow-up after discharge.

Worked there briefly for 3 weeks last year. Spoke to a neighbour recently who's husband has been in there. They lost all his clothes. She managed to find them and also found out that his watch,& wallet had disappeared. Later she found his clothes all washed but behind a locked door where he couldn't get at them. The patients have nothing to do all day and are rarely engaged in any activities by the staff. The place is spotlessly clean but this is a front for the poot care and attention the patients receive. This is a mental health hospital and seems to be like a rudderless ship. It is not directed at all. Perhaps there is no one in overall charge. Luckily her husband is out of there soon.
