Visited 3 nights running whilst staying at the nearby Meon Valley Hotel. Made to feel very welcome by the landlady and her friendly bar staff. The real ale was excellent. Wadsworth Horizon in top order. I ate there on the 3rd evening and the Pie Chips and peas were very good. I would heartily recommend this pub to anyone.
First time back to The Sam's in 15 years or more. What a transformation from what it was. Great pub, Good sports area. Reasonable priced andFantastic gardens with benches. And of course Freya?. Will definitely be back with the family for a meal
Nice Pub, very traditional classic British pub, food looked good, classic pub grub, with plenty of tables eating on Wednesday evening which is a good sign. Pool table, juke box and a pub garden. Nice bar stools what more do you need!
We had the ribeye ciabatta, it was delicious! Amazing blue cheese melted on top, I’ve done this twice at home since having it here. Great combination!
Nicki managed to jiggle bookings so that she could fit us in for a New Year's Day Roast. The food was amazing and plentiful. We visit often for food but never before for a roast. Will definitely be going again.

Went to the Sam’s Rest for road Sunday lunch. Have been several times and have had great food. The ham was slimy and not edible. Potato’s and parsnips rock solid. Suede not mashed. Carrots like rubber. Spoke to the boy behind the bar who said there was nothing he could do. Wanted to speak to manager. She came out her attitude was appalling. Said shouldn’t have had the parsnips anyways and the food was fine nothing she could do. Mr landlord was a lot more pleasant to speak to. On leaving the landlady said don’t come again in front of other customers. Very immature and unprofessional. Will not come again don’t worry.
Discovered this gem on a recent trip away. Great atmosphere, super friendly and helpful staff. Food.. Wow we love the food. Super tasty big portions. We came back twice on our 4 day break that's how much we liked the pub. Prior to our 2nd visit we did two hours in the gym in preparation. Thanks for your great service and food
This is a nice pub good old fashioned atmosphere, warm and welcoming, Had been warned a band was playing but fine with us. they take last booking for food at 19.30. had lovely old jukebox, toilets are lovely and clean and disabled toilet easy access. staff friendly and helpful just one young girl not seeming to want to chat but no problem. menu old styled pub food which is good and reasonably priced and the portions are big and hot so get value for money. Real ales on tap. This pub is a 5 minute walk from the New Place Hotel and just on the outskirts of Southampton, the drive there is lovely. Would definitely recommend and go back
