Unfortunately my wife had a very inadequate dinner last night at the Westhill Shepherds Rest with a salmon main course which was far too small ..! and the Salmon green sauce was not nice to taste quite sour she didn’t know what that sauce was made of..? This was because the potatoes & carrots were minuscule ..! unfortunately she didn’t tell me till we returned home and was eating my homemade soup , because she was still hungry after leaving the Shepherds Rest in Westhill . It was unbelievable because her dinner cost more than my Xmas dinner and our friends Xmas dinner had far more content than hers . I had a reply from the Assistant Manager Caroline Ramsey of the Shepherds Rest about the criticism of my wife’s Salmon dinner last week that had no substance with such a very small portion of potatoes and carrots leaving her feeling quite hungry after eating it . We were given an apology for my wife’s disappointment of her dinners lack of content . However we were told that speciation for calories and cost made the dinner served inadequate to fill my wife’s appetite or stomach because of their rules . I myself and my friendly neighbour had plenty vegetables and potatoes in two other Xmas dinner dishes that cost two pounds less than my wife’s inadequate contents of potatoes and carrots leaving us feeling rather confused and perplexed and disappointed.

Perfect experience, we were six and didn't book a reservation, and we still had a table. The service is really good; all the waiters are really nice and welcoming! The food is on point, and we all enjoyed our meal. It was a perfect evening. I recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to eat in a really nice ambiance alone or with family!

Brilliant family evening out with excellent service from Lucy. Service was quick, food was brilliant, environment was busy for a Tuesday evening. There is an excellent garden area which also shows love sports. This venue has a hotel, and considering the many trade vehicles I'll presume the hotel matches the high standards of the restaurant

First time to be in this part of Scotland, i was staying at the Holiday inn Aberdeen west. What a lovely pub restaurant, it is predominantly food orientated, but still has a nice bar to sit at for a beer, which there is a good selection of, both local and international brews. The food is very good, i can recommend the mixed grill, which came well prepared and presented, but you will need a good appetite to finish it. Even though it was a busy Friday evening, the staff coped very well, i was given a pint quickly and the food was about 15 minutes later, which is perfect in my opinion. Well done, very impressed.

I'm so glad I chose to come here. I was staying at the Premier Inn next door, so it made sense to use my company's food allowance, rather than go into town, pay on my card and have to claim back on expenses. The venue itself is pleasant, clean, relaxed. The food choices were varied - I want brave enough to try the haggis, maybe next time - the food itself was excellent. It had clearly been freshly dished up, moments before coming out to me, not left to fester on a hot plate for ages!! Finally, the service was great. It wasn't exactly quiet, so the staff were visibly busy, but they still made time to check in, take empties away, and genuinely seemed to care about the customers. No gimmicks, nothing revolutionary or flashy, just the fundamentals delivered to a REALLY high standard. I hope I get sent up that way again.

I’m not sure why the ratings are so high. It’s pretty average and the grill offerings aren’t anything special which is odd given the name. The bar area is cluttered and suggests that there aren’t enough staff or something isn’t just right. The breakfast service isn’t much different either everyone seems to be rushing around and there’s a panicked vibe going on. It’s fine but …..

Got hungry on the way to Costco and hubby said we should give this place a try rather than eat at our usual places. He said he's been here once with workmates and it was good. Glad we listened! Food was surprisingly good and at a good price too. It's a pub lunch I would be happy to come back to.

Staying in the premier inn next door and decided on going here. Booked a table for 19:30. Restaurant was busy. Went in at 19:25. Was seated straight away. I ordered the 12oz Rump (medium) and the Mac and cheese for a side. Food arrived in about 10 mins. Presentation was good. Nice plates. The Mac and cheese was warm. Not bad. Bit pricey for what is pasta and cheese. The steak was cooked as I asked for it. It was ok to start off with but as I got more through it, it got drier and drier. Not fresh meat and probably not British. Only the beef on the bone is British the menu says. Cooked well but to dry. The biggest let down was the chips. Cold and old. Shame really. Over all the meal was ok. For a restaurant with the the logo "The Grill experience" it's a bit of a let down. Fresh beef guys...This is Scotland..!!

First time at Shepherds Rest and went for Saturday lunch. We will go back again. Taken to our table in the bowels of the pub. All the staff were friendly. Our server was Joanna. She was a hoot. Had us in stitches from the moment she started to speak and was a refreshing take on waiting staff. If you have a sense of humour and enjoy banter, Joanna is the server for you, she's very bubbly. The two of us had a starter (No Images taken) and main each. Prawn cocktail and Crispy Squid were our choice. The Prawn Cocktail was nice with nice succulent prawns, plenty of sauce and nice salad and was enjoyed. The squid was slightly over cooked so was a bit chewey, but still edible and was nice. The sauce that came with it was not nice, and I would not recommend the sauce. Elsewhere it Usually comes with a garlic mayo or similiar. Mains were Hand-battered Haddock & 12oz 30-day-matured Rump Steak. The haddock was a large size and had very crisp tasty batter and the flesh was flaky and really enjoyed. The rump steak was ordered medium but came medium rare. I like medium rare so it was ok for me and it was a nice steak and I enjoyed it. We ordered a side portion of Onion Rings, but they were the frozen chopped onion type that really are not nice. I really wish places would state chopped onion or onion slices. Marked down the rating due to the onion rings and the sweet and spicy chilli sauce which was vile. However we will go back again, not just for Joanna's banter but for the food.
