We visited the Castle Inn for some lunch, when we arrived the server advised that there would be a wait for food. We asked how long roughly, which seemed to frustrate the server, he advised it would take 20 minutes. The menu unfortunately had no vegetarian or vegan options. The server seemed irritated when we asked to order. A table the same size as ours became available next to a log burner we were a little chilly so moved ourselves across. The server then told us we couldn’t sit there as another group was coming, which was a little confusing as the table was the same size as the one we had moved from. No group arrived for this table the whole time we were there however a man who seemed to know the server sat at the table by himself and didn’t order any food but the waiter did not question this or ask him to move. The food was nice as long as you don’t need vegetarian or vegan options, but the service was strange and unwelcoming to non locals.

We had a slight issue with the food which we raised to the chef, expecting to replace the meal or a simple apology for the misunderstanding. Instead the chef was immediately defensive and condescending implying we were partly at fault. We were honestly so surprised by the reaction which was totally unwarranted. The encounter upset my partner very much, we had a terrible experience which could’ve been easily avoided. Would not recommend.

Pizza was really nice. However. You must try the onion marmalade garlic bread with cheese. It’s not on the menu but if you ask the chef nicely (Matt) he will do the garlic bread for you. Absolutely amazing. Ask for nick frost

Lovely family run country pub, outstanding food and great range of drinks . Had a extremely pleasent couple of pints while watching the bowling on the adjourning green. The Sunday roast was brilliant and the burger was probably the best I have had . Will return

So fab! Really warm and welcoming service. Some posters about the history on the walls would've been cool! (Although you can read all about King Charles I and the bowling green online!) Food was delicious too and can absolutely recommend the Camembert cheese pot!

Duck, chicken and bacon terrine very good-5 stars. Steak and kidney pie extremely dry as well as potatoes. Brussels sprouts and parsnips overcooked-2 stars. Brownie and vanilla ice cream very, very good-5 stars.

What a gorgeous setting for a pub! It was a cold and frosty day and the place looks so pretty. They have decorated really well for Christmas and the vibe was relaxed and friendly. Staff are so nice and helpful. Food was great, if a tad pricey in places. We were a bit chilly in our section, not freezing, but certainly wouldn't put me off returning.

Fantastic lunch at the Castle Inn. We kicked off with the pork burnt ends, very nice start! For mains, I had the whole seabass which was truly one of the best seabass I have ever had. Two others had the burgers which was also delicious. My daughter had the ribs which were falling off the bone, very good all round again!!!!
