Fantastic historic pub. Beautiful building, interior and exterior. Beautiful grounds including a fishing lake. We had the Sunday lunch carvery and it was delicious and very filling.
First time at this great place. I had a Sunday lunch, which was a carvery and very, very nice indeed. Cooked to perfection. There are plenty of meats and vegetables to choose from. Well stocked bar. The service was great, and the staff were professional and helpful. The pub is lovely inside, with beautiful surroundings. There are fishing lakes that you can walk around or just sit outside and admire the view. The only thing is the fact it is on different levels, so if you are disabled or have push chairs, etc, or just unsteady on your feet, you need to book a table downstairs.
This place is a beautiful building, and has lots of history in it. Sadly it is not a disabled friendly place. Lots of stairs! But the staff is friendly and helpful. Outside is beautiful! Got a lake to look out and seats too. Big car park, however it was full! I think it was 3 floored was it ? Lol
We booked a table for four for a birthday Sunday lunch on the basis of the fabulous reviews of the carvery and the beautiful garden/setting around an interesting old building. The building was, indeed, beautiful but the weather was sadly not nice enough to sit out with two oldies nearing their nineties (we popped back the next day to collect the car and enjoyed it then instead). The food was as wonderful as the reviews promised: the beef was cooked to perfection, the nut roast was the best I've tasted and the vegetables and sides were heavenly. I haven't eaten so much in one sitting for a very long time! Everything was tasty, fresh and piping hot. But the cherry on the metaphorical cake was the service and the management. At first we were seated in a room that had a big group and was a little noisy so the oldies had great difficulty hearing and making themselves heard. There was also a small queue for the carvery, which worried them a little (standing and then carrying plates of food etc.). I spoke with James and he could not have been more helpful: he found us the quietest table in the place, made sure the oldies didn't have to wait in the queue, personally ensured the meats were cooked the way everyone liked and periodically (but not intrusively) checked everything was still okay. He made sure we had the best time possible. When I told James I was planning to give him a good review, he asked me to reign it in as the staff tease him about glowing praise. So, Coopers Arms staff, here's some more material for you to work with: James is a wonderful manager who clearly cares deeply about customer service. He will do what he can to make a good experience for the customer without being overbearing. He deserves every success in his career. And he has lovely eyes. OK staff, do your worst!!
Myself and my partner were travelling for a Rally and wanted to go up night before. I rang here and they said staying over in Motorhome wasn't a problem as long as we had a meal and drinks which wasn't a problem for us. Rang on the way on Thursday 29/05/2025 to confirm and was told maybe busy due to Classic car show which is held there on Thursday nights (but do ring to confirm this). But we were still welcome. The place as drove in was amazing with big lake view. We parked up and went in and was greeted by friendly, welcoming lovely staff and owners. James and his team really helpful and friendly. We bought drinks which was reasonably priced. We had the carvery which was absolutely amazing and so tasty and hot definitely worth the money. The place is so clean and tidy. The whole building inside and outside is lovely to look at. There is plenty of seating inside and outside with garden seating area overlooking the lake. Plenty of parking. The walk around the lake was nice and seeing all the ducks and Canadian geese. There is fishing allowed and rules which are in view. We are hoping to stop here again in few weeks. So if travelling and want to stop for night give them a ring. Cannot fault this place. Definitely going again and recommend. Reading the history of the building is interesting. Nice village to travel through. We woke to amazing view and so quiet in the night.. They also cater for various functions..
We really enjoyed our tasty carvery meal thanks. Lovely atmosphere in this well kept country pub with plenty of parking.
Hadn't been for years but we were looking to stop for lunch on a journey and remembered how good it was years before. We weren't disappointed, nice carvery, great service and good value. An easy stop if your travelling on the A50 and well worth the short detour.
Delicious food, attentive service from friendly staff. Wonderful lakeside location, perfect for a summer evening dinner.
Great pub with friendly staff. Lots of garden area and seating. Inside there is lots of choice in cosy style rooms. Drinks selection is better than the average with local ales. Will return
