The best gastropub/restaurant in the Reading area. Consistently great food, lovely staff and a great atmosphere. Worth going out of your way for.

I love historic buildings, and this place has made the most of using lots of the old features. It was warm outside but we ate inside in the conservatory and had beautiful views of the garden. We didn’t book because it was a last minute day out, but the staff were very welcoming and found us a table. It did get busy, and I could see that they probably needed an extra person on the floor, but the way they managed the demands of all the guests, getting food out to tables, and remaining calm and friendly was highly impressive. The food was lovely, and there was a good range of gluten free options. We ate from the set menu, and due to some food intolerances they also let us swap one of the deserts. It might seem an odd thing to mention, but the chips were delicious. Definitely at the top of our chips chart! Will come back to try more things.

Amazing! So glad we found this gorgeous place. Loved the food, loved the service, whole experience (which it was) was amazing!! We will be going back several times to get through that extensive variable menu. So many delicious dishes to choose from. Will sharing with our family and friends as much as possible. Thank you for making us so welcome and special

We recently held a staff meal for 24 people at The Bladebone, and it was an outstanding experience! The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, displaying exceptional service and attention to detail. The food was phenomenal—definitely the best I've had in a long time from a public house. Each dish was prepared with care and tasted delicious, showcasing the quality and creativity of the kitchen. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making our event truly memorable. Highly recommend The Bladebone for any occasion!

Great service by the team, they were all lovely and helpful. Food was quick to arrive and was delicious. Great selection on the menu and the tap selection of beers was incredible! The chips as well were cooked to perfection. The food, the atmosphere and the location make this a great choice for a meal. I highly recommend any of their seafood items, they’re to die for. Our group tried the fish and chips and the scallops and they were sensational The layout and interior design was gorgeous too, especially the conservatory!

This place is amazing. Beautiful interior and outstanding food that’s levels above the best gastropubs. We didn’t have a booking but managed to get a table and served quickly. Vegan and vegetarian menus available request and the service is so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. We’ll definitely be back and would recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

We visited on a Sunday around 5pm. The pub is lovely inside with a strong country theme and a cosy atmosphere to match. The Sundays menu was on which meant Roasts! The food was good on the most part however the deserts felt a little expensive at £8 for what you got, especially the crème brûlée. Overall I would give the food 4 stars. What really let the pub down was the staff that say. All of them seemed fed up and like they didn’t want to be there. Drinks were slammed down on the table and cutlery almost thrown across the table with no effort made to come round to your side and place them down as would be expected. Service gets 2 stars at best. Unfortunately on this day the pub did not live up to its name of a gastro pub. Perhaps an off day for them, would like to try the full emu one evening t give it another chance.

5 stars for the food, but 2 knocked off for the service unfortunately ⭐⭐⭐ Positives: Lovely pub, great food. Very much enjoyed the Sunday roast. A little pricey but worth it Negatives: Having to wait atleast 35 minutes after being given dessert menus, to actually order our desserts. We had to ask twice, and waitresses were walking past us, giving eye contact but ignoring us. Then as we were finishing desserts, being rushed because they needed the table back. A little cheeky to keep us waiting over half an hour, only to then rush us for our table back, and then to be stung £5 service charge on top of the bill.
