I donβt usually review shops but the service was quite sad. I was trying to get some new wellies for my grandad. We were very late, 10minutes to 4 ( closing time) but we had seen the wellies online and just wanted to pick them up. We asked the shop assistant (a tall man) if we could buy some wellies in a size 9. He then said we wonβt have time to get them ( we could see them) he then said to look in another shop. When we left him and the other worker laughing. Quite sad this behaviour around this time.

When into the store to get help for a faulty RAB jacket which was purchased for Β£150 6 weeks ago. Staff were unhelpful and couldn't care less. They stated that the damage was not a fault but a rip caused by us. It's a shame they were more interested in discussing the manager's hangover than actually helping us. Disappointing.

Great store, sound workers, great out doorsie gear that is expensive but will probably last the mile with customer service for hiking and adventure style things which you would want the best gear like this really.

Me and my wife were at this shop in Reading yesterday as we wanted to buy some of kit for upcoming Everest Base Camp trek. It was truly a delightful experience shopping here- particularly i would like to call out Sammi one of the staff who was so knowledgeable and helpful. I cannot but thank her for all the advise and guidance we got and i ended up buying all my equipment here !! Kudos to such service. Thanks Sammi you were superb

I brought a lovely pair of walking boots a week ago Berghaus Hillwalkers. I had Luciana, the manager, helping me to choose a pair of walking boots. Luciana really does knows her stuff she had great knowledge on walking boots. I would highly recommend Blacks in Reading very friendly staff. Thank you so much

I went down there a few days ago to go have a look at what tents I could use for the upcoming festivals this year and I was abit lost but one of the store assistants Kelvin really helped me out and guided me through the tents unfortunately I didnβt buy one but he actually helped me gain better knowledge about tents but Iβm writing this review to thank Kelvin for his hard work and his knowledge about the store and he was just a really cool guy with great customer service skills for such a young age and I hope to see him again in the future and this time be able to buy something.

Congested store. Can be busy, and this can lead to customers misplacing goods. Recently chose some boots until the price at checkout was much higher than marked because someone had returned boots to the wrong shelf position

It was the Sunday of the Black Friday weekend but the staff were a bit stroppy and it took me an eternity to buy a pair of socks so I could try on some hiking boots. I couldn't get any pairs of boots in my size either (I'm a 10). I ended up having to walk out without buying anything because of how uncomfortable the staff had made me feel and how long it was taking to get served.

This is outdoor shop in a side street near to the side entrance to John Lewis. There are two floors. The one downstairs which sells footwear is quite small but the upper floor selling clothing, tents etc is much bigger. If you want to buy a pair of walking boots or indeed any sort of practical outdoor footwear, I would suggest you visit here rather than the βtrainerβ venues in the high street where you pay for the name and the quality is probably not as good. Most of the time there is a sale on so you might be able to pick up a bargain. If you have a ramblers or a blue light card - ask for a discount. The only problem I can see with the store is accessibility for those who canβt climb the steps.
