If the devil himself designed a grocery store it would look like this. Zero staff, poor organization, self checkout only, self checkout computers don't work and when you ask for help no one comes. I feel terrible for the miserable souls who have to work here. It's a shame how bad Reading grocery stores are in the centre.
They are mocking customers ! The Greek style yoghurt is labelled as “main” and sold at a “main” price in the starter–main–snack formula. Just writing something on the label doesn’t magically change the product ! Shame on you, it's really degrading to treat your customers like this.
I pass by this as its near my work place but i find your operatives rude and grumpy especially a quite old lady in your cigarette counter the young ones are quite nice though. As much as i can i dont want to buy in your store anymore.
The way raw meat is currently being handled, something is wrong. Numerous times I have bought home some kind of raw meat (usually turkey mince or meatballs) when I open to start cooking with in the use by date. The smell is clear they have gone off. If this happened once sure accidents happen, things can slip through cracks, but this has happened now on numerous occasions. I have also started to notice the shelves are stocked with packaged meat that has gone grey a clear sign that the meat has started to go off.
The selection in Broad Street's Sainsbury's compared to the larger Sainsbury's a few minutes a way is a lot smaller, so there's a chance you won't be able to find what you're looking for if it's not a necessity. However, this Sainsbury's opens and closes 30 minutes later than the larger Sainsbury's (and 2 hours later than the large Tesco!) so it's ideal if your place of work on a Sunday closes at 5 and you want to do some light shopping. There's often people outside on the opposite side of the path asking for donations which can be a little irritating if you're not wearing headphones. Plus, between the entrance and exit is a hotspot for people who are asking for money. The Sainsbury's inside is clean, well sorted and you're usually not queueing for long. The self service machines are used the most over the checkouts, so they are upheld to high standards.
Just got shooed out from this branch at 10:02 pm. It’s understandable that people want to go home after finishing their shift, but asking people out with some decency and shooing all remaining customers out are two different things. It’s not like I’m stalling, just doing my checking out, but the staff got downright rude, putting me to a bad mood at the end of day.
One of two stores in the centre of Reading, the other larger one is in Friar Street. It's not a bad size and is good if you are buying a few items and not doing a full weekly shop. Payment can be paid via a conveyor or self service. There is also a contain near exit where you can leave your crinkly plastic.
Forgot a couple of items so popped in to see if I could get them here. Surprisingly this smaller branch of Sainsbury's had more available items than the larger store in Friar Street. I have been back several times now instead of using the 'main' store. Staff are friendly and helpful and store is clean. They also have a hot food section. I have not bought from it as it is always closed when I go in, so cannot comment on what is offers.
Sainsbury’s on Broad Street in Reading is a medium size version of this supermarket store. As you go in the main entrance via the door on the right at the front you will find the kiosk to your immediate left, magazines to your immediate right and diagonally to the left the sandwich and snack display. There is a decent selection of snacks and drinks on offer here for someone eating on the go. There is a good range of products on offer throughout the store mainly focussed on fresh meats and vegetables with the basics across the other product ranges limited to the size of the store. There is a hot food counter after the magazine racks with some tasty hot food available though note that availability depends on the day and the time. There is a small range of freshly baked bread on offer. The drinks section to the rear of the store has a good range of alcoholic drinks to choose from. There are several checkouts available but by far the easiest option is to use the self service checkouts which are easy to use and many available with little to no queues. The location of the store makes it very convenient especially if you just want to pick up a soft drink while out shopping.
