   First used this place in the mid 1980's when the now wife was in university in Reading, we couldn't afford posh restaurants then buy chose to go there for our 26th anniversary! We thoroughly enjoyed it, the pies were as good as we remembered them the sides had improved and were excellent and the beers fantastic, the staff were very attentive and helpful and the cutest addition was carpets compared to the mid 80's. I can more than recommend a visit to this restaurant you will not be Disappointed and the value is excellent! Thank you Sweeny & Todd.

   I went today for a friend recommendation and I am so glad I did! Can’t believe after 2 years and a half in Reading never hear about it! There was a large selection of pies but I always like to ask to the staff for a recommendation and I bought to take home one beef and blue Stilton pie. It’s was absolutely delicious. It has character and personality from the moment you walk in. Highly recommended!! I have to come back for the next one!

   Gotten pies to take away from here a few times, today I sat in with some friends visiting from the US, we all loved the pies. Recommendations are the Five Nations, the Lamb & Mint, and the Venison & Boar. The pork pies are pretty good but would recommend their other pies over them.

   Upon arriving, you're greeted by a nice lady at the fridge counter where you can buy pies for takeaway. These are about £5 each and a decent size. But if you casually walk towards the back, you'll find a large seating where time has stood still - giving victorian Coach House meets Westend pub. It was a bit unclear how things work, but I overheard that there is table service. We arrived about 12-1, and the pies were a bit limited due to cooking new batches, but it wasn't a big issue. The pies are £10 when dining, which is steep jump from a take-away, we ordered chips (these are home made from fresh potato) and you'll get a bowl of chips, we also ordered gravy and two pies. Refreshingly, there is no service charge, which I think was fair given the markup and ultimately little service needed or given (not that it was bad). Would I return? Yes, it's quirky, cool and decent quality. We also got some to take home. I wish the pies were heated in the oven when eating in, rather than a microwave to keep the bottom of the pastry crisp and not a bit harder when cooler, but It didn't majorly cause taste issues. It is worth a try and support an independent business.

   Fantastic pie shop! I heard about them from my colleagues about how delicious their pies were, and I had to see for myself. I got the Sweeney pastie and steak and ale pie! My husband and I enjoyed both, but the steak and ale pie was his favourite! Full of flavour with perfect pastry! Will be coming back to try the other pies. My only regret is that I haven't visited sooner.

   Best pies in Reading! Has a lot of history, and the grandma who read the menu was awesome. A family run business that continues to deliver. Incredible place to go if you want pies, unbelievable selection may I not say.

   Award winning pies and quirky building. A huge selection of in-house baked pies, and the pies are massive themselves. I had venison, cherry and leek -a perfect balance of flavours in a rich gravy and ordered 2 sides to share with my husband. The cauliflower cheese had a delicious sauce and grilled to crisp the cheesy top, and broad beans made the perfect compliment to a hearty meal. Highly recommend!

   I'm from the north and I approve of this pie shop! This is the second time we've been here and it's soooo good. You can get a huge range of takeaway pies as well as an extensive choice to eat in. There are loads of tables and a licenced bar with Proper Job, 6X, Adnams Southwold, Peroni, Beck's and Stowford cider on draught, as well as pots of tea on offer. So far we've tried the steak and stilton, venison and wild boar and the Five Nations pies, plus the cheese and onion quiche, all of which have been divine. And they do cauliflower cheese. It's a very filling meal, you won't go away hungry! The staff are all lovely too - great service, food comes quickly and is piping hot. If you like pies and find yourself in Reading, this place is a must. It's tucked away towards the edge of town - seek it out and fill your belly with delicious pie goodness.
