The hotel is in a great position close to the stadium, the centre of Reading and 10-12 minutes from the station. The rooms are spacious with heavy, but not unpleasant furnishings. Just a bit de monde. The absence of a mini fridge is very noticeable. The reception is manned by pleasant, polite and very helpful people. If you go to the hotel - which I recommend - make sure you eat there. The breakfast ladies are amazing, and they will "uplift" your mood even at 6am. Make sure you look after them as much as they will look after you. The evening chef is also good but he needs a bit of support. You cannot serve linguini with prawns (excellent) without a pepper mill. In a nutshell, a great place to go, friendly with great service.

My partner stayed overnight at Calcot Hotel & Spa for a Christmas party and absolutely loved both the evening and the delicious breakfast the next morning. On the same day, I joined as a stallholder at the beautifully organised craft fair, where we had full access to the bar facilities throughout the event. We finished the day with a wonderful family dinner in the restaurant the food was excellent, beautifully presented, and the restaurant team and chefs truly went the extra mile. A huge thank you to the warm and attentive reception staff who kindly looked after my partner’s overnight bag while I was running the stall. Every single member of staff was friendly, professional, and genuinely welcoming. The people here are what make Calcot so memorable, an easy 10/10 from us. We’ll definitely be back! Stayed at this best western and probably the least best we have used . Bedrooms are a bit tired and in need of refurbishment . Double beds are only 4ft 6in and quite tight for space . Breakfast was fine and front of house staff very pleasant and friendly . Housekeeping incredibly slow and inconsistent. Bear in mind they have Christmas parties and music carries on to 1am . This hotel needs something to bring it up but at least it was cheap .

Such a shame to see just how dated the Calcot hotel is. It's had a bit of a tosh over since it was reopened. There is some mold showing in areas & peeling paint. Missed cleaning in areas for dust The rooms are terribly basic, but I guess for the price they do the job. I have been visiting the "Calcot" (as we have always called it) for over 48 years. It definitely needs to brought up to date. In saying this though, the staff are very welcoming & friendly. Breakfast was nice & hot pretty tasty 7/10 for me. I would possible stay here again as it is convenient & cheap.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 days for work training. As someone who has a halal/vegi diet I wasn’t expecting to find halal food. When the hotel staff and manager found out about our dietary restrictions they went above and beyond to accommodate for us. They served us veg options and were unable to provide halal option at the short notice but the fact they tried, goes a long way. Thank you to management and staff for your kind service.

All I can say is don’t stay here. The whole place smells of stale cigarette smoke. Our room was so stuffy and we couldn’t open the window as it was ground floor leading on to the car park. Our neighbours were noisy (not the fault of the hotel). Unfortunately our room was next to the hotel’s water system and this was also very noisy. Eventually around 1am we asked the Night Porter to move us to a different room (he was polite and helpful) which he did. In this room, the bins weren’t emptied and the toilet didn’t work. This is a nightmare of a hotel. Like I said, just do not stay here!

The hotel was very clean throughout, the service was good and the team were definitely 5 star, the only reason I gave it 4 stars was the poor quality floor in my room and the fact that at peak times there was literally no hot water as demand had exceeded supply - have a look at the photos. These were minor things though. I would definitely stay again, the breakfast was well prepared and plentiful and it was the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept in. Overall, very nice, many thanks!!

Was not impressed with my stay at this hotel at all. Attended because of a wedding but would not have picked this hotel if I knew what the rooms where like. The exterior was very nice but the rooms were very dark and musky. The stay was made even worse when we tried to shower for the event. The shower curtain was not appropriate and flooded the entire bathroom. Not only this but the shower was so close to the wall that it was impossible to wash as well as it was a small trickle! We were woken by a fire alarm at 8am which we know cannot be helped but made things even worse when we were awoken early and could not have a shower!!!!!! We had some breakfast which was nice and a good choice available. I would not stay here again. Staff were friendly enough to deal with the bad night we had at the hotel and tried to help but in all honesty I am gutted I had to actually pay for the stay.

We were here for my son's wedding. I stayed the night before and the night of the wedding. The wedding itself was great. Food was good, service of a high quality and nothing was too much trouble.. The room was comfortable and of good quality the only problem was the fire alarm went off both nights at 5 am the Friday night it went off a further 4 times so couldn't go back to sleep. Breakfast was of good quality ingredients
