We had a lovely Christmas meal! The staff were friendly the food was Fantastic and generous portions! We had food allergies in our group which were carefully looked after and the price was excellent value!
Great staff....staggeringly bad Xmas lunch. Ok....to put into context, we werent expecting high end Michellin star food, but this was beyond bad and at £31 for 3 courses should havr been alot better, considering the Hungry Horse was half the price and better!! Ok here goes: Prawn cocktail: was literally prawns was a slop of mayo on top. Explained to the waitress what goes into a Prawn cockzail sauce (mayo, ketchup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, worcester sauce...brandy on occassion) and the waitress returned having spoken to the Cehf and said mayo was the spec??? - how you can mess this simple starter up is beyond me??? Was sent back and replaced with soup that had veg in it so crunchy i could snap it!!! Onto the dinner: Brocolli: rock solid Pigs in blankets: aneamic as hell Roast potatos: rock solid Carrots: ok Parnsip: tough! Stuffing: ok Turkey: 2 slices and was ok So, at this point, a messed up prawn cocktail and a xmas man that ranged from edible to ok!!!! So could it be redeemed by the dessert!! On paper it sounded great! Cherry Cholocate Eton mess...whats not to love??? Well this!!!! Pitched up missing the cherries!! Not of our group of 4 had any cherries!!! What we got was a plate of unsweeted cream with sparse chunks of Merringue...blatantly frozen mixed fruits and some grated flake sprinkled over it!!! Oh did i mention it was served, well slopped on the plate with such a lack of care and finesse, that made you think the kitchen team had some personal vendetta against Red Lion!!! The waiting staff were great though!!! Compared to the great xmas lunch last year, this wasa collossal downshift in every aspect!!!
Very good in all aspects. Not your modern chain type accommodation, but good. Reception was especially helpful in providing information and other requirements (iron etc). Valerie was particularly helpful. Clientele seemed to be mainly couples.
Whether you're a tourist or on a business trip, this is a superb place to stop for a night or a longer stay. It has a very pleasant local feel in every respect : the rooms, the meals, the breakfast, the pub... The premises are clean and the hosts are so friendly. Excellent ! Fareham and the surrounding area are superb.
Excellent hotel. Staff couldn't be any nicer. Food & choice of food is 1st class. Rooms are a wee bit dated but very clean & well kept. I would highly recommend the Red Lion. We'll definitely be back in the summer.
Clearly popular to many. Efficient service but cannot recommend food quality... Overcooked..- burnt and 'uncuttable' pie plus 'packet mash' ??? potato. ( had this vetted by my wife.)..synthetic taste. Horrible. Wife and son not enamoured either. Wont eat here again. Pubs are best sticking to few basics, principally a Sunday Roast and other few simple dishes. Done well.x
The tiny rocking table was in a fire place. The nachos bore no resemblance to any nachos I have ever eaten, my partner sent his burger back and refused any replacement. My risotto was the consistency soup with rice. Not an experience we are ever likely to repeat. The waitress was a delight.
Stayed 3 nights in September. Room was very quiet and had a TV with many free channels. The bathroom was very large however the floor could do a refit. Tea facilities were available in the room however no fridge. The breakfast was excellent if you chose from the menu (included in my reservation). Customer service was very nice. I tried adjusting the shower head but noticed it was coming off the pipe. Very clean.
Walking into reception through a large, open archway you are greeted by very friendly and helpful staff members. We stayed in a family room which was so well set out it was joyful. There was a double bed and 2 proper single beds, not the metal framed things you sometimes find. The room, and indeed the whole establishment is very clean and gives out a happy feeling. There is car parking at the rear which is included in the cost of the room. The quality of the food is excelent with portion sizes that guarantee you will not be hungry.
