Spent the weekend in the donard for the weekend to climb the mountain, Brilliant hotel with lovely rooms and very friendly staff and also a great breakfast, would definitely recommend

A wee mid week break just perfect. Comfortable rooms and great beds.staff were so friendly and manager Kevin couldn't do enough. Continental breakfast totally adequate. Will definitely return Heather and Mary
This is a wonderful locally owned hotel and I would absolutely recommend staying here. It is not luxury but you couldn't ask for nicer people and a more comfortable stay. It is right in the center, close to the intercity bus station, and nearby to food and drink. Also, hikes are an easy walk from the front door.
This was a special weekend as I was getting engaged, the hotel was booked via there own Web site , arrived on very cold Friday night at 6 30 pm approached reception to be told that they could not provide breakfast as the kitchen was closed,, offered refund and said cafe open opposite, went to room very disappointed indeed , the room was freezing no radiators switched on , very cold bathroom , waited 1 hour in our coats in the hope it would warm up, in the end I had to go to reception to complain, we were given a fan heater which the receptionist was using herself, we were told the hotel was only open Friday night to Sunday and it had been closed all week, there was no bar facilities either, Having made the best of the first night the next morning we fully inspected the room which was filthy , there was no room services no make up of bed, no refreshing of tea making, no cleaning of bathroom or towels, a ridiculous state of affairs, weekend ruined, had the town had accommodation available we would have moved in a heart beat,
This hotel was great, the staff were friendly and the room was very clean. I will definitely stay again.
Overall my experience of the donard hotel was good. The hallways further up the building could be updated they have old carpets and doors. The blue furniture paint in the rooms could do with an extra coat as you can see the wood. Everything in the room was clean from the beds to the bathroom. We had breakfast included at our stay, the breakfast was nice and the staff were very accommodating. The receptionist was very cheerful and nice.

We stayed in room 201. Room a bit dated but the views from the windows must be the most spectacular in Newcastle. Laying in bed to the view of the mournes and watching newcastle come to life was amazing(even with a hangover). Breakfast was very nice. All the staff were very smiley and helpful. Possibly the nicest bubbliest receptionist ever. We will be back.
