“Happy to make changes like putting some meat separate and some in a pitta which is really useful, when they are flexible about how the food is given to you and they aren't precious about a set menu. Only thing I'd point out to them is to make sure to use a set of tongs to turn the raw chicken skewers over, and once this is cooked on the outside, move to a different part of the grill and finish it off, by using another pair of tongs. You'd avoid any chance of cross contamination this way. Same goes for the pittas and wraps being warmed up - use another clean pair of tongs to avoid customers having second thoughts about their stomachs getting through the night ok..”

“[SHORT VERSION] One of the best Japanese food we’ve had in London. Prices were MORE than reasonable and the portions are big. You should eat here. [LONG VERSION] The Food: We first had the Yuzu Yellowtail Tiradito. The first mouthful me and my partner had, we looked at each other and said, this sort of flavours could be easily served in fine dining restaurants. Very complex sweet, sour, and a small beautiful hint of spiciness to it and then the yellowtail tasted so fresh. Not one bit of slimy/fishy smell or flavour to it. We then had the mixed tempura. There was no usual dipping sauce and we thought it was a bit sad, but when we had our first bite, it was so crunchy and tasty that too much sauce would ruin it. You could really taste the freshness of the prawn. My partner and I think that proper japanese chefs pay attention to detail, so we check how they prepare their food, and they delivered. The tails of the prawns were completely clean with no black marks at all and the vegetables were so fresh too. We also had the pork katsu curry, which had the entire bowl covered with the pork cutlet and a really powerful japanese curry sauce(very flavourful)[no photo as someone took a better one that does justice to it]. The Chef and the Place: To be honest, I found out about this restaurant passing by it early morning(it was closed) on our to the bus stop, and I checked the reviews(high). I thought we would drop by later that night. They said that they don’t do reservations as it is really a small place(mainly takeaways), with bar like setting(stools lined up along the window and along where the chef prepares sushi) and 1 small table on the side. We went in later for dinner and were surprised that there wasn’t a single Japanese staff in the place, I even looked outside to check if we were in the right place. So we’re like, ok let’s just order, we’re here already and as soon as we tasted the food, we loved it. We talked to this Sri Lankan chef and asked how the hell his food tasted this good and we all had a good laugh. He’s been in the Japanese Fine dining field for 25 years and he wanted to start his own little restaurant serving cheap but high quality food. We spent 2 hours talking about Japanese food, and how they store, prepare, and present their food. They even showed us that they use only the highest quality ingredients all the way down to the salt they use for the sushi. These guys are lovely human beings and they are also highly skilled in what they do and they need the recognition. Thank you for the lovely meal. It was a pleasure meeting you guys. P.S. “Best bar in Sutton! Good selection of beer and a selection of craft beers in the fridge. The roast on a Sunday is definitely a winner with really good portion sizes at a great price. Aaron and the team are fantastic with lots of great recommendations for craft beers and always give amazing service. There is a space available to rent for free for hosting larger groups upstairs and a small selection of board games available to play. The pub is dog friendly and has a doggo station with water and treats!”

I suggest you try the steaks and a variety of their appetizers and wash them down with carefully crafted beverages. “I had a fantastic festive celebration here with our tattoo studio on our Christmas do and I can't recommend it enough! The food was absolutely delicious, and the tiger prawns and Philly cheesesteak sandwich stood out as highlights. We were greeted warmly by the staff, who really went above and beyond, making the whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfectly festive, and everything was spotlessly clean. “Searched from Google map then first time try the Chinese restaurant in London, turn out we are so lucky. The food is authentic with great taste, the service team is nice and warm welcoming, the overall environment is bright, clean and cozy. We arrived around 7pm on Friday and the large dinning area were packed so we were invited to eat in the inner separated room, so happy! I will definitely recommend you to have a try the food here!”

“If you didn’t believe the California pub could be a fantastic venue for a wedding think again! The pub, staff, owner and managers are absolutely first class! The venue was incredible and it made for the best wedding one could ask for! The lighting, cosy warmth of the venue and the accessibility and space was incredible. The owner Isabella is such an incredible gracious soul and seriously couldn’t have made it happen without her!!! She was so accommodating and resourceful and really provided everything we needed for the big day! The venue was well equipped, staff were great and they allowed us to bring in our own items to decorate the place in the way and style we wanted too! Without any force or resistance. From the bottom of my heart I can’t thank Isabella and everyone at the California enough! All the guests had a place to park their cars. The location was great and peaceful and the venue is perfect for a small intimate wedding. Would do it all over again and twice on a Sunday if we could thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️”

“I’ve been here a few times, and the food is always amazing! Just look at these muscles! This is a wonderful place for a date night out, or a special location with friends. It’s always best to book ahead as it gets quite busy. I love that this establishment also prevents local businesses in the front area, as there’s little things for sale. You definitely should buy the scotch bonnet hot sauce it’s definitely under £10, but i can’t remember the price…”
