Visited today from Derby after hearing good things, & I must say the atmosphere & food were great. Love the refurbishment, Sunny & his team really make you feel welcomed. Will be back soon.
Not sure why this place is rated 3.5/5. We dined today for a late lunch and thought the venue, service and food was fantastic!! We were greeted by a friendly front of house staff member who took our drinks/food order, came to see if we needed anything, also popped over to see if we were satisfied with our food and drinks. Cant complain at all. The food itself, haloumi fries as a starter, lamb shish kofta and a 9oz steak were cooked spot on and throughly enjoyable. All in all a great experience and highly recommend it. Great to see a huge vegan and vegetarian range too.
Super cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The have a pool table in a separate room and quite a few vegan options. I had the vegan tofu and chips- generous portions and tasted nice :)
Nice place but could have been better. Needed a bit of a sweep so I didn't have to dodge the left over food under the table. Then we sat down we got told that the menu was unavailable except for pizza and kebabs. The food that did arrive was actually very nice.
I may be being a bit generous but the waiter saved the experience, some what. There's was pretty much half of the menu in available, which considering the menu is very big anyway, meant very limited options. Food was actually OK but massively over priced. We used a Groupon voucher which meant we payed just over half which felt right (hence not losing stars for this). The waiter was super friendly and attentive though.
First time eating at the Funky Bear for Sunday lunch and first impressions were not good as it looked in need of renovations (especially the gents toilet). We ordered 2 x beef, 1 x chicken dinners and 1 cheesy burger and the food was average - good, but the service was slow. Staff were friendly and pleasant but looked bored. We were overcharged for 2 extra drinks (apparently a computer error) which was partially corrected. We ordered 2 drinks (1 cider & 1 coffee) after the meal but the coffee never arrived and also had to be removed from the bill. Menu prices online need updating as we were charged more on the day. Glad we used a Groupon voucher but won’t be returning anytime soon.
Lovely little place... Staff were great.. Decor was nice.. The bar is good but the food was average. I wouldn't visit again for the food put it that way. It was basic food dressed up and presented as food cooked by a good chef which was disappointing as I had high hopes as I heard good things.... Lamb tagine had no flavour if it wasn't for the pomegranate seeds and herbs etc... Was mostly cous cous rather than meat or anything of substance.... The sauce and lamb was bland... The best part of the meal was the red pepper hummus which is a statement of the meal really....the flat bread was nice though but way too small... Was more like a small pitta... One conselation is the halloumi battered fries which were nice but a tad greasy.... Cocktails were presented nice and were tasty but over all the food was disappointing. Service and atmosphere was good but overall experience was a 6/10.....plus we were there an hour and a half and were asked for the table back by the manager which I thought was rude after waiting 20 minutes for the food and only finishing 10 minutes before being asked for the table and spending over 100+ including the 50% off in January deal. If there is time restrictions this should be made clear then it wouldn't be an issue. No return visit for food... Maybe for drinks if in the area as the bar seemed lively. Certainly wouldn't of been worth full price.
