Fantastic find , eaten here a few times , by far best coffee and cake around . Had the breakfast today and it was really nice , tasty and plentiful . Definitely return .
Visited whilst out road cycling with 2 friends. The wait for drinks around 20 minutes. The wait for food was around 45 minutes. I ordered the ham, eggs and chips. When the food arrived, the presentation was poor. Eggs were crispy and about 6 soggy chips. The ham was okay. £11.95 for very poor food, slow service. Will avoid at all costs.
A mixed experience. We were seated outside but weren't served for a long time. I assumed it can't have been table service and so went inside but was told they'd come and take our order. A short while later someone came to take our drinks order. Drinks weren't featured on the .enu so my wife asked what soft drinks they had - the girl said orange squash and wasn't sure what else was available so we assumed they must have coffee (later we saw nearby tables with coke and ginger beer so assume there are others available. But a menu wouldn't really help). We wanted to order food at the same time but were told we have to wait for someone else to take that order. They seem to rely on a system where if you still have a menu you want to order food which a few times caused confusion as people had put them on chairs. We also saw the table next to us having to walk over to the cleaning station and grab a cloth and spray to wipe their own table after 10 mins waiting. Anyway, once the food was ordered and delivered it was really nice. The platter for two was incredible with lots of cheese, pork pie, quiche, scotch egg, pickles and meat. Many people commented on the tables around us. Some small changes to the service would make this place better, we won't rush back.
Quick mid-week lunch. Shop and restaurant are very nice, but I wish I could say the same about the food. I had the cottage pie, which was described as "warming". I didn't really understand what that meant until it turned up in a scalding dish with a side of vegetables. Of the veg, the peas were overcooked, and the rest were dry. The cottage pie consisted of a smear of mince surmounted by 15mm of wet (likely instant) potato. The dish was scalding hot to the point of leaving a tide mark of burnt potato around the inside. All-in-all, the whole meal was sad, tasteless, and generally disappointing. I don't want to condemn the whole place on the basis of one poor menu item, because overall it has a lot going for it. But, you just can't serve food like that and hope that people come back.
Note for older folks who share main meals, they charge a supplement. This in essence describes the approach to the food here, maximise cash in for putting out as cheap food as possible. The prices are excessive for the quality and standard of the food. Also expect long waiting times for food to arrive. This is noted in the menu but at the same time is indicative of the attitude to customers, "its okay to be slow because we told you so".
Had a Sunday carvery today. It was fabulous. Everything cooked to perfection. The service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. It is super dog friendly and our little anton was made very welcome! Will definitely return. Prices reasonable. Lovely farm shop and boutique too. Incidentally the restaurant is very spacious leaving plenty of room to move. The facilities were spotless.
Vary quaint little farm shop with a cafe attached! We when here for my Grandmothers birthday and had a very tasty meal! She was delighted and very happy. The food was all to a high standard and served promptly and hot. There was a great selection and the desserts were divine. The farm shop had a great selection of local produce and some very stylish clothes. I would highly recommend visiting!
An impromptu family get together was made so enjoyable today - from accommodating our very large party of 9 adults, 3 toddlers and 3 children at short notice, to the beautifully cooked Sunday lunches; I can’t rave about this place enough. A fab place to go if you have young ones, as their play park is safe & enclosed and great for all ages (fab for keeping the smalls entertained while dinner’s being made) and they have toys indoors too! Huge thanks to the staff who made our visit so enjoyable - we’ll definitely be back. Only negative that may put some people off was that the gammon was very salty (but I liked it)!
