Had a nice meal here taking advantage of the reasonably-priced set menu. The food was all hot and delicious. The restaurant was incredibly busy (Saturday afternoon) and the staff seemed to be struggling a bit with a few mistakes made.

Seriously delicious food. Walked in without booking on a Sunday and luckily secured a spot. Looking around they were doing multiple shifts of booked tables so next time I'll book in advance to be sure of a place! The staff was very attentive and even brought hot water with lemon when they noticed my aunt had a cough. We weren't charged for it which made us feel seen and appreciated. Waiter was happy and in for a joke but professional nonetheless. Both waiters on duty took time to answer our questions and didn't rush us to order. The food tasted excellent, was served quickly, but didn't feel like it was pre-made. I will definitely be returning.

Came here with my parents and brother for lunch. We shared the Cozze a la Vecchia and Brie Empanato as starters, both of which were delicious. For my main, I had the Duo di Agnello. I requested no mushrooms, but since they’re incorporated into the sauce and used as garnish, that wasn’t possible. Surprisingly, I ended up eating the mushrooms like chips — they were that good — even though I usually don’t like mushrooms. The rest of my family had the Branzino Beurre Blanc, Risotto Tartufo di Pollo, and Maiale Smaltato. The risotto had a very strong truffle flavour on the surface, which stood out quite a bit. We also had a flat white, a few cappuccinos, and a passion fruit martini — nothing too much to say about them other than they were good. We’ve been here about five times now, and each visit has been a great experience. The pricing is fair for the quality, and the service has always been good. However, this time there was a small issue with the bill — a few random items were added by mistake, totalling about £20 extra. It was quickly corrected before payment, but I’d recommend double-checking your receipt just in case. Overall, still a lovely restaurant that I’d happily return to.

A beautiful and stylish Italian restaurant in the York City Centre. If you love the fine dinner service and high quality food that is your place. The waiter's service is so professional from small hostess reception at the entrance and the waiters once you have your table, they take care of you all the service. The food was amazing, I attached some photos you will have a look the place and the quality of the dishes. We will be back again, fully recommend it.

We came here on the recommendation of my sister and loved it. It was busy and everyone looked very happy. Attentive, cheerful staff, and a lovely atmosphere. We sat in the summer house (best name I can think of). Plenty to choose from on the menu. I only took photos of my calamari and pizza which were brilliant. My wife had a pasta dish and loves it

This is our third visit to La Vecchia Scuola. Great mood after visiting the restaurant! Beautiful historic building across from the Minster. We enjoyed delicious food and warm service from friendly staff. Stylish presentation of dishes. Updated menu. Thank you all for the great atmosphere and great service! Thank you for the extra source of warmth on this cold March evening when it was snowing outside. Prosperity to your business! We will definitely return! Tanya, Andrei, York.

I was hesitant, because I had seen some negative reviews. But our experience was like the many rave reviews I had also seen. What came across was that this is a well-run restaurant. I don't mean efficient (although it was) but I mean that the staff were helpful, friendly, good-humoured. And they enjoyed their work. And this showed in the way they approached it and responded to the clients. The manager, although very busy, was happy to take time to listen to our feedback (not knowing if it was going to be good or bad). It was a special meal, and the restaurant made it extra=special. The pianist taking requests was a nice touch, and some enthusiastic singing from a couple of tables made it a really fin time. I'd recommend the conservatory or a side room if you want it a little quiter. Oh, and the food and wine were very good. Free chilled tap water a nice touch.

Pleasant restaurant. Although only a 3-star review, I would go back. Some context: - extremely kind and friendly staff although seemed a little overwhelmed during our visit - accommodated us for 9 people at lunchtime even though the streets were busy. Appreciated this as other restaurants were too busy to take us prior - they struggled a little to cope with the demands from customers. The restaurant wasn't full but possibly understaffed on this day - our food order took a long time to arrive. Whilst we asked for the kids food to come once ready, they didn't arrive until almost an hour after (3 pizzas - the pizzas could really do with an improvement, especially since this is an Italian restaurant) - my wife and I both ordered the napolitana pasta which was OK but both portions were different. One had a lot more sauce and was a bigger portion. Always good to keep dishes looking the same IMO - one of the group ordered a pink gin and lemonade but was given a different gin and tonic. It took three attempts to get the right order - consensus from our group was that the food and service was OK, not great I would happily increase my rating if the wait time and food quality was improved. My apologies to the restaurant, perhaps we caught you on a bad day, but I have to be honest when writing a review. Hope this helps.

Amazing restaurant set in an old school building. Live piano which makes it an amazing vibe. Service was impeccable, everyone was lovely. Chicken is halal but I opted for the saffron risotto which was delicious. My friend had the sea bass which she enjoyed although it was a little salty

We came across this lovely restaurant on a day out in York, quite by chance. It had a lovely lunchtime menu and looked so nice from the outside that we thought we’d give it a try. We weren’t disappointed. It’s beautiful inside and we were sat inside a nice warm, snug conservatory. The two waiters who served us were really pleasant and created a warm atmosphere, chatting to all the guests. The food was amazing, I had the salmon linguine and the taste was out of this world! I do love my pasta! Would definitely recommend this restaurant, the surroundings are beautiful, the staff are welcoming and friendly and the food is fabulous. The lunchtime special is well priced and tasted amazing, as well as being beautifully presented. Will definitely be visiting the next time we’re in York
