I bought a Hotpoint Invertermotor 8kg washing machine (model N SWIM843C WUK) from Direct Discount on 6 September 2022, along with other appliances, total cost Β£610. The Hotpoint stopped working on 2 January 2025. I called the store for advice and was told: "Google it. We sell washing machines, not repair them." I asked to speak to Tony (who delivered and installed the machine) for advice and was told he was unavailable. I called the holders of ten-year guarantee and was told parts were covered but they had to recommended by an approved engineer, callout charge Β£149. A local washing machine engineer came to inspect the machine and concluded the appliance was beyond repair and would need to be replaced. Effectively, it was scrap: remember it was 27 months old. I accept that Direct Discount prices are unbeatable and that, after several years of buying products, the occasional rogue appliance is likely. But the offhand response to the problem ("Google it") left me wondering about the after-sales service, such as it is. (I have been asked by Direct Discount to point out that Tony visited my home without charge in August 2024 to inspect the Hotpoint washing machine, the same machine, purchased from Direct Discount, which is now scrap. Tony did not call to examine a product purchased elsewhere. He concluded the Hotpoint needed a part, which he said he would supply and for which I would pay. I emailed monthly reminders, but the part never materialized. I am now wondering if this failure to fit a new part was connected to the failure of the machine..) #HotpointUK have been of limited use, suggesting, "we will feed this [details of the failure] back internally."

I regret not listening to the warnings and buying from this place just to save a bit of money. I purchased a fridge, but it keeps going back up to room temperature. When I called, they said theyβd have to βlook at it first.β Of course, when they arrived the fridge happened to be cold again. Instead of helping, they told me to my face that I wasnβt the first customer with this issue and basically accused me of just changing my mind. That was shocking. Please take the reviews seriously and save yourself the trouble.

I bought a free standing gas cooker new. There were number of problems. They loaded the gas cooker in my car when we arrived home, heat shield, an oven tray, and one leg were missing. Contacted the shop and gentleman promised to send it in the post. Reminded them through calls and text messages the stoped even replying my texts and wats app messages. Very poor service not honest in what they are selling. They have given warranty on cooker but I guess this is fake aswell they wont help. So AVOID these dodgy people and go elsewhere.

Despite the fact I haven't brought anything from Direct Discount, the prices of electrical products here are pretty competitive compared to other higher retailer stores. If you are looking to buy a television, washing machine or a cooker at a cheaper price, you may want to give this place a shot. From microwaves to washing machines to televisions, these are some of the items you can purchase. I have been here a couple of times and this store has been busy. But I'm not entirely convinced my parents would come here. You will still find your big brands here such as: Sony, Samsung, LG etc. If you do travel by car to come to this store, you will need to find parking in the side streets which can be difficult. But I guess the one consolation is the fact this shop is not on Soho Road where parking is a real nightmare. Staff will help you and they are really friendly. They have excellent customer service skills and the store itself is open to both the public and trade. Worth a visit in my opinion if you are looking for electrical items at cheap prices.

Only giving one star as it's not possible to give any less. I bought a washer dryer on 30/11/14, and collected it on Monday 01/12. I ran a few washes through it and all was fine, however when I tried to run a drying cycle it didn't work. In fact, the drying cycle turned clothes that were just damp after a 1200 spin into clothes that were absolutely sopping wet and boiling hot. I called the shop and was informed that as I had not opted for their Β£10 delivery service, they would send out a repair man, probably on Saturday, and I would have to pay the call out fee. I pointed out that under the Sale of Goods act they should be covering ALL costs, however they disagreed with the law. After much to-ing and fro-ing, they eventually said they would come and collect and repair the item in store. I agreed, on the proviso it would be ready to collect before the end of the day. I was told it would be, and that they would collect in 20 minutes. This was at 1pm. By almost 3pm nobody had shown up, and so I had to get my husband to leave work and go and pick our son up whilst I waited for the delivery team, who finally arrived at 3:15pm. I was initially told repair would be attempted in my home first in case it was an easy fix, however they wheeled the machine straight out and onto their van, before informing me it was going to Wales! I called the store who said it was a misunderstanding and that their electrician would be there to fix the item once it arrived. I got a call a short while later informing me that the item would now not be repaired that day. I instead decided to ask for a refund as I was rejecting the items under the sale of goods act as they were not fit for purpose. The store then decided to inform me that they would only pay me by cheque, and that they would be making deductions from my refund for collecting the item. I made them aware that under the Sale of Goods act the onus was on them to cover all costs involved in transporting the item back to them however, yet again, their lack of knowledge of consumer rights kicked in and they refused to budge. I also informed them that they should be refunding me via my bank card, which was the original method of payment, however due to their lack of organisational skills, their supervisor card that they required to refund to my card was broken. I was reluctant to take a cheque due to the financial state of the company (last years accounts show a net worth of -Β£20,000, and the measly cash at bank sum of Β£984) however they point blank refused to refund by card or cash. I went into store to sort out the refund whereupon, yet again, they tried to offer me a lower amount than I had paid for the machine. I said I would sit in store and wait until they were prepared to fulfil their legal obligations. I was informed I could not sit on the beaten up, not for sale seat I had sat on on the day of ordering as it was "display only". At this point I would like to point out that I am heavily pregnant, and so I ended up sat on the floor. The store eventually decided to call the police (apparently they had to do the same thing for the same reasons the week before, which shows just how often they try to rip people off and deny them their rights). The police arrived and eventually, just over an hour after I arrived, I left with a combination of cash and cheque for the full value of the refund. Just waiting to see if their cheque clears or bounces... I will be pursuing my consequential losses through the courts. Avoid this company.
