   Prior to arriving i called the Liberal house to make sure they had a room available. The guy I spoke to advised me to book directly with them upon arrival rather than book through booking.com as it would be better for me. Turns out it was £6 more expensive booking direct so not sure how it was better for me. Arrived at the venue, it was karaoke night. This didnt really bother me but worth considering as the noise was going on until around midnight (this was a weekend). Went to my room and at the top of the stairs was a foul smell. I think it was the smell that you get in beer cellars..... it wasnt pleasant. The room itself was "ok" (ish). I was there for work, though I wouldnt take the wife there if I was hoping to have my 1 in 365 special night...... even Lionel Ritchie greatest hits wouldnt help on this occasion. The staff seemed lovley enough and from what I saw, if your a local, the pub would be an amusing night out.

   I've never stayed in such a dirty uncared for place. I found hairs, sweet wrappers, LOTS of dust, just generally unpleasant vibes. Also very thin walls, so could hear everything from other rooms. There wasn't even soap in the bathroom! I had to sacrifice my face wash just to have clean hands! And to top it off, as I was leaving, 2 police were exiting down the stairs in front of me and went on to examine the tables outside. Who knows what had happened, but I've never seen anything of the like at any other hotel/inn/hostel!

   To start we went to The Liberal only about a week after the new management had started. The room we stayed in was basic, no tea/coffee available to make I'm the room etc. The heater was loose on the wall and wasn't fully operational, in that the timer was broken. There was a strange smell from the bathroom, which we initially thought was the toilet cleaner, but this persisted even after a number of flushes. The bed was ok, but not enough pillows, those were extra we found didn't have a pillow case on them, and were quite stained. We were only staying a night so didn't give the staff a chance to rectify it. The staff were friendly though and helpful

   I booked a stay here via hotels.com, at check in I was told there was a problem with my payment card so was charged again. Upon leaving I checked my bank to find I had in fact been charged twice. Two emails to the property later, the issue has not been resolved so I have had to request a charge back through my bank. Other than that it's a decent place. I wonder how many others are overcharged and don't notice.....

   Staff and patrons were friendly and welcoming. Prices were very reasonable. Or room unfortunately had a very uncomfortable bed but we were able to make it work as was only a 2 night stay. Was a great location for what we needed between bloodstock festival and Birmingham. Would stay again when we go back to the festival next year.

   Do not stay at this place it is vile. I directed to my room via a passage then was immediately hit with this pungent smell of drains and sewage . What a dump

   Rooms smell of drains. Not clean. Broken mirrors, no shelves or hooks in bathroom. Better off at a premier inn. Do not know how it gets high reviews - must be fake or they have stayed in another hotel. Staff nice - avoid hotel at all costs No reply to complaints

   Could do with a really good clean. Double room. They issue one towel. No shelf in shower. No towel hooks. Bed needs to go in the bin, springs are coming through. And it sags. Pillow is wafer thin. We found mould in the shower and basin and around the windows in the bedroom. All in all a terrible experience.

   This isn't a family B&B more like a B&B for builder's. Very basic room no coffee/tea eg in the room . No smoking signs in the rooms which smells of smoke. I could go on with more , but a nice welcome from the staff .
