Neola was a fantastic server very friendly and helpful! A very filling meal well worth the money! Will be back again! It was 11.95 for the steak sandwich. Pay by cash if you can to help a small business.

the woman who served us was lovely and service was quick. the atmosphere is cute and cozy. the food however was not to my liking. overpriced for what you get, the cheesesteak sandwich was a thin and flimsy steak and both sandwiches not much filling + cheese was not melted or hot despite being toasted. cheese and onion crisps on the side was strange to me as opposed to the usual ready salted but my boyfriend liked them. the salad was nice, i love pickled veg and beetroot. coleslaw had way too much mayo. unfortunately found a hair in my sandwich towards the end of the meal which put me off coming back. this cafe does have great music choices though.

Excellent! Quirky setting with fab music and film quotes on the walls. Delicious food and generous portions- I had the prawn salad. Very friendly staff- would highly recommend!

BAD FOOD, WORSE SERVICE.. We chose this little cafe as it looked quaint, quirky and we try and support local businesses when we can. The waitress was pleasant enough to start with, showed us our table and took our order. The wife had mushrooms on toast and I had the £12 sausage, egg, beans and chips, which advertised itself as having ‘butchers’ sausages. Hmmm perhaps the butcher is a cheapskate, as these were plain old boring, cheap as you can buy, catering sausages. To make matters worse they seemed like they were yesterday’s sausages, reheated. One was so far over cooked that I couldn’t cut through the burnt, charcoal like skin. See the attached picture. The chips were hit n miss as well. Some being soggy and only a few crispy. The eggs were slightly over done, but nothing too drastic and the beans were just beans. I was excited for my £5 milkshake but soon that excitement turned to disappointment as it had hardly any chocolate flavour in it, at all. The wife said hers order was OK, nothing special. All in all it was not a great experience. The rooms on two floors were small but quirky. Somewhat stuffy too, despite all the windows being open. I thought I’d mention the issue with the sausages when paying. The measure of a catering establishment can sometimes be gauged by how well they treat you if there’s an issue. It was certainly telling. The waitress simply said “sorry” when I told her about the overcooked sausages. She left it at that. I asked if they were going to offer some kind of discount to show how sorry she was for the condition of the sausages including the inedible one. After conferring with her colleagues she said she would only discount 50p (yes fifty pence!) for the one sausage I’d left. She told me that was all she could do as I had eaten the other two sausages and that’s the cost of one sausage!! Unbelievable!! I was in two minds whether to refuse to pay as the waitress had just been given grief by the previous customers for over charging for two coffees they didn’t consume. Regrettably I paid the bill, minus 50p. As I mulled this over later, I wished I hadn’t. I was going to give 3 stars based on the state of the food but after being treated like that, especially when there was a genuine issue, it only worthy of one.

2 x bacon waffles and maple syrup. Cold, 3 rashes bacon, 3 potato waffle sized waffles, almost no syrup whatsoever - just under £20 with delivery Never again, a complete ripoff of price to quantity and quality ratio. Would have been better off getting the McDonald’s pancakes that my girl wanted but convinced her she’d prefer this… ^ Left this review on just eat, and the reply from the restaurant is atrocious. Sandwitches Cafe replied That’s your opinion. I made it and it was a good size. Please don’t order again. In my opinion, as the customer 3 Heinz potato waffles and 3 rashers of bacon is not £8's worth of food. It was cold, lacking the syrup and frankly a disgrace to serve and charge someone for what we got. The audacity of the restaurant telling us not to order again when i clearly already stated in my review i would not be ordering again. I cant see this place staying open too long with an attitude like that... Any bad review is met with denial and arrogance. Its like something of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares! Edit - reply to the response - Why are you so defensive and flat out rude when there a people telling you they had a bad experience? The worst thing about your restaurant is you and your attitude! An how are you have the audacity to tell someone to learn how to cook when you charge £8 for toaster waffles and bacon! Absolute disgrace... Reply - How am I lying?! My opinion is my opinion. Your attitude is flat out disgusting, and now there’s an upload picture feature everyone will see what you sent me and my little girl for the price we paid. One picture is worth a thousand words and all that. I’m not trying to ruin your business I’m trying to get you to see what you produced for what you charged is outrageous. Go to any other restaurant within the bar walls serving waffles and see what you get for the price you pay… Go ahead, throw more insults and “defend” that…

From the outside you would never be able to guess how the inside and upstairs looks. It is a real gem in York, the prices are excellent and the staff were so lovely. If you are passing definitely visit, even just for a coffee I promise it's worth it!

This place intrigued me because of the name. And that it had themed rooms. It's a quirky little place. Plus they had a snoozing pooch at the bottom of the stairs, always a bonus. I had a gin and tonic and a jacket potato with tuna - all delicious! My partner had chicken and bacon loaded fries and chocolate milkshake - also delicious! The staff were clearly very busy and it was quite a warm warm day, so added stress! But they were all happy and friendly. The bill came to about £24, fairly reasonable and we got to read lots of awesome quotes on the walls too!

I popped in for a hot drink as walking around York was bitterly cold. I decided not to eat here just because I didn't feel relaxed. There were plenty of people here though, friendly and quirky. Just not a place for me.

Hidden gem! Quirky, music themed, 3 storey, little cafe hidden behind an unassuming facade. Good variety menu. We had club sandwiches and they were delicious. When we visited, there was a young workforce in place who were friendly, fast and efficient. Will definitely go back on my next visit to York. Highly recommend.
