Had chicken burger and chips…chips were stunning, didn’t receive red cabbage slaw, chicken burger was tough. Everyone else’s meals looked stun, and were well received. Would revisit but will order something else :)

What an absolute gem The Angel is! As non-locals spoiled for choice, we were thrilled to stumble upon this standout for Sunday lunch. From start to finish, The Angel delivered an exceptional experience that ticked every box. The staff were warm, attentive, and professional, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The decor was tasteful and well-maintained, with a spotless dining area that set the tone for a delightful meal. The ambiance struck a perfect balance cozy yet refined, ideal for a relaxed Sunday. The food, however, was the true star. We kicked off with a shared scotch egg wrapped in black pudding, a dish that could easily go wrong but was executed flawlessly. The egg was perfectly cooked, the black pudding added a rich depth, and the accompanying small salad brought a fresh, vibrant contrast. It was a taste sensation, beautifully presented. For mains, we indulged in the Sunday roast, and wow what a feast! The towering, golden Yorkshire puddings were a sight to behold. I opted for the gammon, which melted in the mouth with every bite, while my partner chose the beef, equally tender and flavorful. The gammon, in my opinion, stole the show, cooked to perfection. The roast came with creamy mash, crispy roast potatoes, a generous selection of perfectly cooked vegetables, a stuffing ball, and rich, savory gravy. We were even treated to an extra gravy boat and checked on mid-meal to ensure we had enough, a thoughtful touch. I was over the moon when they offered mushy peas as an extra side. This addition made the meal even more special. After two drinks and with very full bellies, we left utterly satisfied. The portions were generous, the quality outstanding, and the price felt like excellent value for such a high-caliber experience. The Angel delivered a culinary delight and a memorable afternoon. Top marks, we can’t wait to share this information and all the very best for your futures.

Dropped in on a Sunday afternoon after Grok (my AI) suggested the Angel as the best spot for a Sunday lunch between Pontefract and Barnsley, boy did grok nail that recommendation!! Fitted us in no problem, food was just amazing (especially the black pudding wrapped scotch eggs!!) portions were huge, like the Yorkshire puddings!!, vegetables all cooked to perfection. Definitely couldn’t fault a single thing, well done to you all, and a shout out to the fabulous staff. Thanks for a great Sunday lunch, you didn’t disappoint and Grok rules for recommendations!!

Food was excellent, service not so much, felt like you were putting them out if you asked them something. Food was excellent however, some of the best chips I've had in a long time!! Mrs had the lamb kofta wrap or something like, which was also exceptional!!

Eaten here a few times and have just had the best haddock and chips I've had in decades. Edit: We have eaten here many times and I have the black pudding scotch egg starter every time (except the couple of times they had none left). The food and service here never disappoints.

Fab brilliantly cooked food, in fact Sunday lunch is so good, we go every week. A genuinely lovely family managed pub with very friendly and professional staff.... a genuine asset to the village of Ackworth. Give The Angel a go, you won't be disappointed!

A warm welcome was given by the staff who were pleasant and friendly (it's advisable to pre-book a table). This pub is an old coaching Inn and retains it's charm as such , our dining area was well lit with natural light and well placed table and chairs giving good space between them. A decent sized bar with a good selection of alcoholic drinks. A very extensive lunch menu with a good selection of meals, there were small size plates( reduced price) that are on the main lunch menus which will suit pensioner's with a extra 10% off the price for pensioner's, a really good deal. Meal prices are very reasonable priced. Gents rest room was very clean and well decorated, as is the pub . A decent sized car park next to a local walk "Dando Way" (Which I think was a rail line in the days of steam ) is a very pleasant walk in the beautiful village of Ackworth. Will call again and recommend.
