Omg, the food here is amazing! Everything was fresh and warm. Service was great, staff are friendly and attentive! I asked for a cheese sandwich with my soup and even though it wasnt on the menu, they accomodated my request. You must try the food here if you come to visit the peak district! We had the corriander and cumin soup the kids fish goujons, which my son absolutely demolished and the chicken wrap. Best chips we've ever eaten. Thank you everyone at the sportsman!

Been on a 8 hour walk and the helpful friendly staff couldn't do enough for me. They seemed like they enjoyed their job and working with one another. The Sunday roast was excellent, the room was more than adequate for a walker, clean and very comfortable bed. Cooked breakfast of great quality, although continental could do with a slightly better selection. I couldn't do the walk on the original date due to weather and there was no cost or problem to change it. Would return again.

We called in without a booking & they happy seated my daughter & I & our two poodle's in the dog friendly area even though we had just had a 7mile walk across the peaks, so we're sweaty, wet & in walking boots, albeit clean. We had a latte & a bowl of chips (possibly the best chips ever) each & then had to have a pint before we left, the friendly staff petted the poodle's along with giving them a few doggie treats. The service, the welcome, food & beer was excellent, we will definitely return when we are in the area or just passing by..

Really nice pub, with incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Good range of beers, and a decent menu. The food was delicious, the service first-class, and they were not stingy with portion sizes! Unsurprisingly, it was busy on the nights we visited, but not crowded. Seemed to be a happy mix of campers and locals - in fact, we agreed that it was exactly the sort of establishment that we wished was *our* local. It's been a long while since I can remember spending a evening or two in a pub this nice, and I honestly don't think that I've *ever* been in a pub that was so friendly and genuine. Very much hoping to be back next season, and hopefully for a bit longer next time.

This is a really good pub with a great range of beers, very good food and excellent service by attentive, friendly staff. After we’d had a kitchen nightmare at home, we phoned the pub on the off-chance and they fitted our group of 5 (and 2 dogs) straight in for a super Sunday lunch. We were looked after superbly and can’t speak highly enough of the team and quality of our roasts!

Really nice place, only had a drink but lovely fire going which was great after a walk. Really clean inside and well decorated. Staff friendly and pleasant. Didn't eat but lots of people looked like they were enjoying the food.

Three of us called in again today 9th Feb 2.30pm and ordered food and beer from the delightful staff Mother and daughter. They are both so polite and welcoming. The beer was just unbelievable and probably one of the best pints of cask we have all ever had. The food was just 'stunning' with the apple crumble to die for. I can't recommend this pub enough. Well done.

Went for lunch as was highly recommended the food was lovely and the pub was clean and tidy my only down point was when we were seated no others where in so we were given a table to the left as you come in not a problem. A couple came in with a dog who sat on the table behind us again no problem we knew dogs were allowed, my gripe comes when a few walkers came in asked to sit at the table next to us and the girl (who gave us our table) said no that’s where dogs and their owners sit (we didn’t have a dog) if it hadn’t of been for that comment I would have never have thought anything of it but for her to clearly say that knowing we could hear was in my mind unacceptable. Would I come here again…. For the food yes I would.
