Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Rooms: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Location: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ My partner and I stayed here recently, and overall, it was okay — but definitely not worth the price. The location was good — around 15 minutes from the centre of York, so convenient for getting in and out of the city. The service was polite and friendly enough, and staff did their best to help when needed. Unfortunately, the room was the biggest letdown. We paid well over £100 per night for what was described as a “small double room,” but this was on another level — probably around 3m x 3m. The décor was lovely, but it felt like everything was designed to look nice rather than work properly. There was no fridge, the shower pressure was dreadful (and got even worse when anyone else used water), and the walls were so thin we could hear the neighbouring rooms all Saturday night. Breakfast was fine, but portions were small, and you had to pay extra for simple things like eggs. Paying £15 to take the handwash felt steep, and on top of that, there’s a £15-per-night parking charge that wasn’t made clear on the Booking.com listing. We also paid £35 for flowers (which were lovely and fair value), but £12 for six small truffle chocolates felt like poor value. Overall, the place looks the part, but it doesn’t deliver on comfort or practicality. It’s okay at best, but far too expensive for what you actually get. If you’re over 15 stone, you’d probably even struggle to get into the bathroom comfortably — that’s how tight the space was. (See attached image.)

Fabulous find! We have loved our stay here. Such a lovely place with gorgeous decor and our room was lovely! This is located in a great spot just 10 min walk into the city and it has parking which made our stay stress free. The breakfast was superb really tasty. Will definitely stay again if we visit York again!

Quirky and fun! The decor is all kinds of classic English history with a hearty splash of irreverence, split across a couple buildings that feel like homes rather than a hotel. The room itself was small, but that suited me perfectly — great for a solo traveller. Only thing to note is I’m somewhat tall for a woman and on that bed I just about could touch my toes to the window sill while my head was by the headboard. I thought it was quite fun but taller people might want to take note. Everything was neat and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The walls are a little thin, like in any old house, so you can hear some bustling in the morning, but I personally found that endearing. The staff were very kind and friendly, and even introduced me to the hotel cat, Teddy! The location is great, just a 10-15 minute walk to the centre of town. I come through York frequently so I can say with certainty and delight that I’ll be staying here again! Thanks again to the staff for a lovely experience.

I loved it here. Such great value for money. It is decorated beautifully and I adored my room. The staff were really helpful and friendly, I needed help closing the windows and they came straight up to help me. The room was spacious and the bed was really comfy, I slept really well. I also loved the tea and coffee corner especially the coffee machine. My only advice would be that despite having instructions on how to use it it doesn't tell you to fill the side up with water so I spent about 15 mins trying to figure that out. Worth it though, as the hot chocolate was delicious. The bathroom was also gorgeous, the massive shower was to die for. I would recommend putting a shower cap in as I wanted to go under the massive rain like showerhead but didn't want to get my hair wet so I felt I lost a little of the experience. Just v small quibbles and they didn't affect my stay, I still had a wonderful time

Couldn’t fault it! Really friendly staff, especially the lady who I dropped my bag too who upgraded me for free! I loved the decor in my room and all the amenities. Great location, and only took about 10 minutes to get to the Minister if that. Breakfast was gorgeous too. Would definitely go back.

Spectacularly decorated premises with the most comfortable bed I've slept on, the sheets were so soft! Very clean & even given complimentary water and milk for the room! Very happy, the only downside is the parking which you have to pay for however if you arrive later in the evening then the street parking is free until 9am

What can I say about this hotel. The boutique decoration, the atmosphere in every single room, the friendly staff, the facilities in and out of the hotel area, the great location, etc. In one word, it is AWESOME! Clearly my first preference if I get to York ever again. Highly recommended.

Loved staying here. A great boutique hotel near to the centre of York. Bathroom was spotless but the bed had some very long black hairs in it, even after it was changed the next day which was weird. You can’t really fault this hotel though. Very nice place over all.
