Stayed early December in this welcoming family-run inn. Staff were all incredibly welcoming and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious and our commendations to the chef. Even though there is plenty of space for dining there are comfortable nooks and crannies that make the dining and bar area cosy and warm. Would advise booking well in advance for both food and accommodation.

We stayed one very windy night and had dinner with six friends. The room was polished and shiny, such a comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. Dinner as always (we have eaten here before) was a real treat. I had the steak pie, I think my best ever!! You can’t go wrong with a stay here.

Fantastic night. Everything about this pub is spotless. Our room was very clean and comfortable the only fault being it did not come with a view. However we sort of new that before we arrived which did not affect our stay. Staff, food etc were all first class and i hope we can return in 2026 for a night and to walk in the area. Many Thanks.

Went here just for a Sunday Roast but everything on the menu looked so good we wanted to try more and it didn't disappoint. I'm happy to say that the food was some of the most amazing I've ever had the good fortune to eat. I savoured every mouthfull and thoroughly enjoyed it. I particularly recommend the venison. For the prices paid the food was hearty and the portions adequate and filling. The staff were very friendly and the service was thoroughly on point. I would heartily recommend this Inn to anyone visiting Derbyshire or the peaks or living in surrounding areas.

Excellent service as soon as myself and my husband arrived at The Barrel Inn to check in for a 2 night stay. All the staff I came into contact with were friendly and extremely helpful, from check in, bar staff, waiting on, the chef and breakfast. The pub itself had a friendly atmosphere and tastefully furnished. The outside views were incredible. We stayed in a double room which was spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. The pub obviously has a reputation for it's food because it was very busy. The food was delicious. I'm a vegetarian and the tempura mushroom on a brioche bun was extremely tasty. Apart from the above regarding the staff what most impressed me was when I was out for a walk the following day, Oliver contacted me to see if myself and my husband needed a table for that evening. Above and beyond as far as I'm concerned, looking after their residents. As I know from the evening before the pub would have been extremely busy on a Saturday night. Well done The Barrel Inn. Looking forward to visiting you again. See review

Absolutely brilliant. Food was amazing and they managed to find space for 6 of us from a very short notice booking. Have been recommending to all my friends and relatives. Will definitely visit again when the weather warms up. View is spectacular

Spending a few days in South Yorkshire, a trip into the Peak District national park was planned. A Google of the area, found the Barrel Inn claiming to be the highest pub in the Peak District with good food. I was not disappointed with the fantastic views that could be seen from the pub car park, but very little could be seen from the pub interior. It is a charming and old pub inside with some modern touches. Food appeared to be of very good quality, although the staff could only 'squeeze' us in to have coffee.

We had a great lunch on Thursday with our friends. We were besides the fire it was really comfortable. Shown to our seats by a young man who left us menus and came back to take our drinks order. The meals were not quick but each one was cooked fresh I had chicken breat which was succulent my husband's liver and onions very tasty our friends had fish and chips and the meat pie. Each meal was excellent and to finish I had a delicious sticky toffee pudding. We all rolled out very satisfied. Very friendly staff as well. Will be going again soon.

A fabulous lunch by the roaring fire! Excellent quality produce, great options. The batter on the fish was light, fish flaky, chips outstanding. Little pot with some scraps on the plate too with a little dollop of curry sauce. Love to see it. Sticky toffee pudding was a delight. Staff were friendly and helpful without being overbearing. We've booked again for dinner just before Christmas. Can't wait!
