Terrible arrival, decent hotel. We arrived in 2 cars having driven from Leeds to visit family for Christmas. The parking signage is terrible, so if you don't know how many hotels or companies are sharing the parking area, you can get pet flustered by the numerous cameras and signs promising fines of £100. We walked the wrong way to reception then couldn't find the reception and then they couldn't find our 3 room reservation. All this meant we took longer than the 15 minutes allowed to pay for parking, so that's 2 x £100 fines on arrival! Merry Christmas... The reception staff said they didn't drive so didn't know about parking. Not helpful. The rooms are fine and the beds are actually really good. We faced in to the light-well so it was quiet and the shower was really good too. Could have been a 5 star review with a few Ibis hotel signs.

I was here for 3 nights and honestly had a fabulous time. The room was comfortable, everything was clean, the bathroom was clean. The bed was so comfortable, not to hard, not too soft. I had a lovely view on the 5th level. Reception were all super helpful and friendly from start to finish. My only issue was with the fire alarm that randomly kept going. But that was at no fault of the hotel, we were told that someone had burnt something in their room. That soon ended and the rest of my experience was perfect. I'll definitely be going again!

Overall, my experience was neutral, with some positive aspects but also several shortcomings that don’t allow me to rate it higher than three stars, maybe three at most. The initial welcome was very good: a young receptionist, I believe Asian, was extremely kind and helpful, which gave a great first impression. The room was very quiet, the bathroom was in good condition, and the shower worked perfectly with strong water pressure. The location is convenient as it’s close to the train station, although unfortunately it is quite far from the city center. That said, there were some disappointing issues. We specifically asked for the bed sheets to be changed — not once, but twice — and despite this, we returned to the room to find the same dirty sheets still on the bed, which I found unacceptable. We were told that housekeeping had already finished for the day but that they would take care of it anyway; however, the room was only tidied up and the main request was completely ignored. Another downside is the lack of a refrigerator in the room, which would have been very useful. In addition, there is no phone in the room, making it inconvenient to contact the reception if needed. The hotel has potential and some strong points, but attention to basic services and details needs to improve significantly. For now, the overall experience remains below average.

The Bear ★★★☆☆
The check in at reception was quick and painless. The room was very warm though and only way of cooling it down was to open the window. However you could not sleep with it open due to noise from outside. The bathroom was ok. Unfortunately on the first morning, the fire alarm went off constantly due to a false alarm, and that meant when I arrived in the breakfast room the food was pretty non existent. The toaster was not working (was this the thing that set off the fire alarm?) the hot food was well not hot and in fact was not much. One hash brown, a tiny bit of bacon and the dregs of baked beans. The orange juice tasted of water. All in all not great. And no staff around at all. The next day was a bit better in the breakfast bar as there appeared to be a member of staff and the toaster was working. However the charge for what is offered is not great.

The reception staff at the hotel, Clarence and Chloe were exceptional. From the moment I arrived, they greeted me with genuine warmth and professionalism. They were always ready to assist with anything I needed, offering helpful information and going out of their way to ensure my stay was comfortable. Their friendly attitude, efficiency, and attention to detail truly made a difference. Excellent service!! They are a real asset to the hotel!

Very smart and clean rooms. It’s only a short walk to the railway station and buses. The centre of Sutton is on your doorstep. My room had noisy ventilation which the staff were quick to look at to see if anything could be done.

Great hotel that has all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. The bar restaurant is super stylish, offering great food. The breakfast buffet is fresh with a mixed of cooked food and fresh options such as brie, fresh fruit and avocado smash. All in all a great property!
