We were looking for South Indian light snack like dosa and idli but ended up eating a full blown lunch. Everything we ordered was authentic and spectacular.I highly recommend Mutton Soup - one of the best I had. Idli was also good. Seems to have South Indian cuisines so differently need another visit.

Came here since the vegan pub next door wasn’t serving food. Wasn’t disappointed. Tasty, fresh and good portions.

Authentic South Indian food. Not your run of the mill curry house. Every dish is unique and flavorful. Spice level is perfect; it won’t burn your palette but leave you with lingering flavors. Unpretentious, evokes the feeling of a home cooked meal.

A Fantastic South Indian Dining Experience! We had the pleasure of dining at Tanjore South Indian Restaurant on Clerk Street in Edinburgh, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal. We ordered a variety of dishes to explore the full range of their offerings. The Lamb Chettinad was a standout — beautifully spiced, tender, and rich in flavor. The Chicken Tanjore was equally impressive, with a unique mix of spices and perfectly cooked chicken that left us craving more. For sides, we had the Parotta and Bahtura, both of which were fresh, soft, and an excellent match for the curries. The veg curries were equally delightful, with a vibrant mix of vegetables cooked to perfection and perfectly balanced in flavor. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, showcasing the authenticity and complexity of South Indian cuisine. The service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel welcome throughout our meal. The restaurant itself has a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, making it a great choice for both casual dining or special occasions. We will definitely return to try more dishes and highly recommend Tanjore to anyone looking for authentic South Indian flavors in Edinburgh!

Food was amazing. But don’t expect quantity. Even though u order large the quantity will be very less. Cost is bit higher side if u compare with other Asian/Indian Restaurants over there. I saw few reviews about Card acceptance not available but it was there and they take all kind of cards for payment. Pls visit

An ok place. . Although very busy and need to either come early or come after 8.30 pm to get a seat. (V went on a Monday. And got a seat at at 9pm) 4 adults n 2 kids. Had the Tanjore curry with prawns and chettinund curry with chicken. Both of these were tasty. 16£ each. Their paratha’s were good too 4£ almost each. (Expensive though). Chapati avoid. Biryani is also to be avoided - small serving n rice aren’t basmati. Dosa were disappointing. Too thick.. Chickpea curry was also disappointing. Overall bill was 123£ with out drinks. There are better Indian shops. Would recommend their curries only..

Very delicious food, large portions, especially Dosa and friendly staff. They have both spicy and not spicy options. Also lots of meaty and vegan options to chose from. Would definitely visit again, highly recommend!

Tanjore the name says it all. It's a pucca South Indian restaurant with all the items you would like to see on the menu. I went their twice during my visit to Edinburgh. First visit was on Tuesday evening at 5.30 which was a silent onw with just being there in the restaurant . I ordered Ambur Briyani which was good but could have been better , kothu parotta which was top notch , paneer starter top class just fell for the masala , dosa again well done. I also tried the lassi salt which tasted more like thick buttermilk but did aid digestion. Filter coffee stood out with the milk and decotion presentation. Slightly overpriced when compared to Chennai's Marina which does only takeaway but has more or less similar menu. A definite visit for all south Indians if you are in Edinburgh.
