I picked this place for my final dinner after a week in Scotland, and I’m happy to say I wasn’t disappointed. The smoked trout from the Belhaven duo was absolutely fantasticβ€”one of the best I’ve ever had! The smoked salmon that came with it was a bit underwhelming, but that’s probably because the trout stole the spotlight. The haggis was by far the best I had during my entire stay (trust me, I made sure to try it at several places), and the lobster was the perfect finish to the meal. Definitely recommend this spot for a great fine dining experience.

Couldn't recommend highly enough. Excellent food in a lovely setting. Went for a birthday meal and staff went above and beyond to make it a special occasion. Great choice of dining options, every dish was delicious and portion size was good.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Howies Scottish Restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious β€” fresh, beautifully presented, and full of authentic Scottish flavor. Every dish we tried was cooked perfectly and served hot. The service made our visit even better. Our waitress was warm, friendly, and very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. She gave great recommendations and made us feel truly welcome from start to finish. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed β€” a perfect place to enjoy a meal with family. We left very satisfied and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommended to anyone visiting Edinburgh and looking for genuine Scottish hospitality and great food.

We had a lovely meal at Howie's on our recent trip to Edinburgh. The 2-course special was an excellent value with your choice of either a starter and a main, or a main and a dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed the chicken supreme, but the Scottish Salmon was incredible. Our party also raved over the venison & beet root casserole. The venison was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender! An outstanding meal and excellent service. We world definitely return on our next excursion to Edinburgh.

Booked a table online in advance everything went smooth. However when we got to the restaurant it took forever for someone to seat us, I understand it was the festive season and they were super busy. The cocktail I had was yummy, the Cullen skink was delicious as was the salmon. My partner wasn’t as satisfied with his meal but overall it was good.

Our visit was to mark a very special occasion and we could not have picked a better venue to do that. The table was ready when we arrived. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely. The music wasn’t too loud and there was a constant hum of conversation as people enjoyed their delicious meals. The servers were very attentive. The food and wine were exceptional. Our first visit there, but it most definitely won’t be the last.

The food here was good, we had their set dinner for 2 courses for 20 pounds, although we had to add an additional 2 and 7 pounds, for the catch of the day and lamb rump, respectively. Food were seasoned well - meat or fish were not overcooked or too dry, calamari was not oily, and we enjoyed the mackerel pate. Reasonably priced overall. We note that our server’s customer service was below average, however she was chatting it up and significantly more friendly with the table next to us.

Everyone I have taken here has had an amazing experience. The restaurant provides high quality food, that is also very tasty. Vegan options are available. The deserts are especially tasty, so highly recommend you try them out. They have soup of the day and fish of the day, always made using fresh ingredients. The inside of the restaurant is very well decorated and the staff very helpful and nice. Every time I have been there I ended up leaving extremely satisfied and happy with the meal I had. It is not the cheapest place but I believe it is worth it!
