Lovely venue - booked & had a great table by the window. Wonderful food, prompt service & nice environment. Both had the venison stew, had a couple of cocktails & shared a pud. Would definitely recommend. Best to book as very busy.

We went to this restaurant and I am glad we did! We got the 2 courses offer for 20ยฃ which is a fair deal. We order for starters the traditional haggis which was amazingly good and the chicken pate which I didn't like. The main courses were the venison casserole and the chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli, both delicious. The staff was kind and attentive. A reservation is required if you want to find a table!

Such a cozy Scottish restaurant with a really warm atmosphere. The staff were lovely and welcoming. They patiently explained the menu and gave us great recommendations. I really enjoyed the haggis; it was a delicious taste of traditional Scottish flavour. The grass-fed Scottish beef ribeye (35-day matured) was grilled perfectly to medium rare, just as we ordered, tender and full of flavour. The banoffee pie was also amazing, with just the right amount of sweetness, and everything balanced beautifully. The dessert wine paired so well it might have even outshone the dessert itself! Definitely a place worth coming back to.

First meal in Scotland and it did not disappoint! Great shop for lunch, went right when it opened. Had the Cullen Skink, the Haggis and both were delicious. The Pesto Salmon risotto was wonderful as well. Great place!

Fantastic introduction to Edinburgh and local Scottish cuisine. This was our first meal in town. Haggis was delicious, highly recommended with the scotch pairing. I do not say this often, especially about salads, but the heritage tomato salad was absolutely to die for. Incredible taste profile, super fresh and the lemon dressing a perfect contrast to the velvety smooth whipped feta. Would come here again just for that salad. Mains were solid: the spinach risotto with crispy basil was great. The ribeye was good but not great - this can be forgiven, considering how good everything else was. (We are from Texas the bar is pretty high on steak.) Classy but not stuffy ambience, attentive service (thanks Alex!), and of course you're dining on one of the most photogenic streets in the world. The early dining 2-course pricing is quite reasonable considering the quality of the food. We will be back!

Ok so if you are a meat eater, absolutely 10/10 If you are vegetarian, you might want to look at the menu ahead of time as options are limited for sure Ordered the haggis as a starter, my first haggis and it was absolutely amazing!! My friend ordered the veggie haggis which all in all was pretty decent! He also ordered the roasted cauliflower which was pretty small in size and not sure I would order it myself We ordered the venison casserole and venison haunch. The haunch was absolutely amazing!!! The casserole was nice and hearty but no way beating the haunch! Generally I would highly highly recommend the place Service was very good and loved the atmosphere there. You MUST MUST have a reservation. Don't try walking in, chances are you will be disappointed Also the drinks menu....... As a whisky lover I was IN love with this place. The selection was very good. Got to try some new whiskies. The flights were also amazing. My friend tried the festive royal.. was not too happy about it. If you don't like whisky don't worry the wine list is also pretty long and you have cocktails too.

Five starts experience at Howies, restaurant was recommended by a tourist guide and recommendation couldn't be better! Host accommodated my table request in a very polite and efficient manner even I didn't have a booking. Waiting staff was friendly and easily answered all questions about menu. I dinned from lunch menu, 3 courses. High quality of food, flavourous and delicious. Had to take a picture of menu to remember cocktail I got, it tasted like definition of 'Christmas'. Fantastic!

Great upscale restaurant at a reasonable price. I find the lunch menu quite good at only ยฃ20 per person. Options given on the lunch menu are great and portions are right. Everything we had was delicious and my friends, who are visiting, were amazed by the quality. Would definitely recommend this place. It is better to book in advance.

Really good haggis! The fish was good and fresh too. The atmosphere was warm and cozy but busy, assure you set a reservation in advance, we did and were glad for it. Would recommend if you're looking for an upscale dining place to eat at as it's a bit pricey.

This is a great place to eat pure and simple. All three courses were excellent. In particular, the venison was amazing. The staff are friendly and the part we were in was romantically lit. A really enjoyable evening and we would definitely go back. Book early as this place is popular.
