“Ignore the negative reviews. My partner and I had such a lovely experience here. The food was flavoursome, quick to come out, and the waiter was on top form. So so lovely and knowledgeable. ORDER THE SPATCHCOCK CHICKEN. It’s an underdog and better than the lamb - my partner and the waiter agree. Falls off the bone and is so flavourful. Bacon and spring onion mash is unmatched. Get it. Or regret it.”
“Every dish was bursting with flavor, and the owner went out of their way to guide me through the menu—helping me make the perfect choices. I was not disappointed. The standout for me was the mango spring rolls—truly unique. I’d return just for those. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, making it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a great meal.”
“Birthday celebration in one of our favourite restaurants. Never disappoints. Gorgeous food (we had the 5 course tasting menu), hugely accommodating of our food preferences, superb service and a fantastic vibe with great background music.”
“The food is so good! I had the scallop strawberry kelp dish and the lobster creme brûlée. I should have taken pics it was so good. Their homemade bread was amazing too!”
“Both our dishes were very tasty but after living and working in Thailand, I expected this Thai restaurant to serve Pad Thai with wide flat rice noodles "sen lek" but they either cut them very thinly or they used spaghetti noodles, it was very hard to tell ? The Thai green curry was nicely presented but should have been served in 2 bowls, with more green curry sauce. As you would expect from a mainly Thai staffed restaurant, the staff and the service was perfect. Lovely seating areas with individual seating bays on the entry level, plus a few bays elevated up, giving a great dining experience. The restaurant decoration is very nicely done.”
“The risotto was delicious and everything else we ordered was very tasty! Can really recommend.”
“We had a lovely dinner at L’escargot bleu. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was exceptional. The steak tartare is prepared table side and it is delicious.”
“This has to be one of the best fine dining, tasting experiences we have had, and we are seasoned fine diners. From start to finish, everything was perfect. The head waiter and staff were amazing, they couldn't do enough for you. We had the anniversary tasting menu, and it was superb, not one dish could we find fault with. My daughter even said it was the best meal she ever had. Highly recommend to anyone.”
“Lovely lunch at the Terrace today. Food quality is amazing. This a restaurant for training staff so give the staff some leeway. Well worth visiting and we highly recommend it….”
“An excellent place to eat. I had smoked haddock starter which had real smoke taste. Partner had starter scallops cooked to perfection. I had venison, exceptionally tender with raspberry sauce. The whole chilli in syrup was fiery and unusual, loved it. Partner had cooked perfectly hake. We drank a bottle of white, had desserts (not quite as good). Absolutely great place for a more special dinner, good value outstanding cooking.”
“Absolutely lovely. Excellent people and excellent food! I had the mutton curry and then the chocolate sponge - both were actually fantastic. Would come here every day if I could!!”
“Lovely restaurant in a fantastic hotel. Our only meal here was breakfast and our full Scottish breakfast is excellent. Breakfast was also well done. In the evening the restaurant and bar are packed. This is obviously a place to go. Prices good. Attentive and professional staff.”
“A very atmospheric restaurant with only 14 tables, so quite intimate, with low volume background music and low lighting in the basement. We were served by the head waitress who was excellent throughout the evening. Took our drinks and food orders, corrects the owner when she brought the wrong beer, brought the bill without being asked and saw us out. The best service we have seen anywhere in the world and she’s Scottish too. The food was great from bread, amuse bouchée to starter through to dessert. A limited set menu but interesting Scottish produce.”
“Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location in the city, but not too busy of a spot, so no loud noises waking you up. Rooms are very comfortable, bed was soft and cushioned but supportive, very comfortable. We had room service the first night since we got in kind of late. Food was pretty good. Would stay here again and highly recommend the hotel.”
“Lovely lunch with friends. Food was amazing and staff couldn't be any nicer. Thank you!”
“One of Edinburgh's best kept secrets! Situated on Edinburgh College's Milton Road campus, the delicious meals are cooked and served by students of the college. There may be a bit of a wait or occasional mix ups as the young people are mastering their hospitality journal but any misstep is more than made up for by the quality of the food, the local, seasonal ingredients and the happy atmosphere. A very economical way to experience really good food. The views are really nice too.”
“Amazing food, stunning views (if your by the window) busy place with fast service and great value for the price (lunch time visit) Bookings are by phone only. So we chanced it rocking up towards the start of service hoping to get squeezed in. (Edinburgh at the fringe is busy). The menu has hand written additions/specials, some bin end wines to take advantage off. Pictured is the venison foccaccia, chargriiled pork, whitebait and the buckwheat pancakes) One of my favourite meals in Edinburgh”
“First meal in Scotland and it did not disappoint! Great shop for lunch, went right when it opened. Had the Cullen Skink, the Haggis and both were delicious. The Pesto Salmon risotto was wonderful as well. Great place!”
“Play poker here every day and always get a meal or the daily special. The salmon linguine is very very good and this place is famous for steaks. Highly recommend.”
“Great few days away staying in this hotel, the location is great and easy walking access to new and old parts of Edinburgh. Rooms lovely and clean. Staff friendly at reception. Breakfast is great with plenty of choice. Must give a mention to Raul at breakfast, nothing too much trouble. Will definitely stay here again if visiting Edinburgh”
“Very nice fish and chips with friendly staff. The fish was delicious with a nice thin batter and the chips were crispy. The curry sauce was nice too as was the coffee that I had.”
“My dining experience at this place was seriously amazing! I mean, the food was like next level, guys. Every dish was like a work of art, bursting with flavors that blew my mind. And don't even get me started on the drinks! They were perfectly matched with the food and took the whole experience to another level.”
“Booked a private room/area for friend’s hen party yesterday for drinks/food and to do a crafting activity. Great space tucked away from the busy area. Staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. Cocktails and food lovely. Would recommend!”
“First time here. Absolutely delicious. I’d recommend.”
“I have a lot to say - so if you have the time please take what I mention to heart. First, the greeting. A warm welcoming and very down to earth beauty took my coat and escorted me to the waiting area before the main dining area opened. Their wide selection of adult beverages was apparent by their wall of whisky and pamphlet of wine selection. After receiving my old fashioned, my beverage and I were escorted to the table where I had full view of the kitchen operations as well as the majority of the establishment. I opted to order the premier tasting, coupled with the abundantly knowledgeable barman who is going to school for distilling and brewing. Over the course of the night he chose pairings that would make the average whisky enjoyer cry tears of joy. The food spoke for itself. Each dish was incredibly unique with contrasting flavors and textures. I've lived all over the pacific but have never had fish as good as I did tonight. The veal roux that went with it was heavenly beyond belief. Lastly - I want to mention how great the staff was. Since I dined alone I had a lot of time to gander and watch their workings. Its almost incomprehensible how they manage their attention to detail when it comes to the diners, the communication between each other, and the overall timing for each table. I never felt too rushed, or that I was in need of anything. This experience was one I'll remember forever. Tom, thank you for hosting such a wonderful night.”
“Great food friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be back”
“It’s great that there is a French cafe, specializing in galettes and crepes, close to the centre of Edinburgh. I have been to Le Petit Cafe twice. For galettes I would always go for the classic combination with ham and cheese, and that’s why I ordered the Parisian both times. The galette itself got a nice texture, with the tasty infill of melty cheddar cheese and ham, and a fried egg on top. There is a good variety of choices for both savory galettes and sweet crepes on their menu. We had two crepes following the galettes - one with chopped pistachio, white chocolate spread & pistachio ice cream which was a great mix of flavour; another one simply with salted butter caramel which was also nice, though I hope the texture of the crepes could be softer and tenderer (I come across such excellent texture once in Paris recently). Remember to try the French cappuccino, it came with cream on top which was definitely a great accompaniment to the food there.”
