“Best meal I had in Edinburgh. The menu was so tempting I had to have three courses — at lunch. The server was wonderful too, with her excellent recommendations and general welcoming vibe.”
“Absolute pleasure dining here. Great service, delicious food. I felt so calm and relaxed. Paul and other servers were lovely. The cod, oysters, and apple tarte were my favorites.”
“Lunch fabulous at Café Marlayne (76 Thistle Street) which I can highly recommend! I started with PATE DE POISSON (Arbroath smokie pate, horseradish, creamy cheese) and then PITHIVIERS DE LAPIN (Rabbit, leek and aged cheddar in butter puff pastry with grain mustard sauce) my main. Excellent service, excellent food!”
“We had the most exquisite meal here; family friendly too! They catered for our six year old son by frying a fillet of cod and serving with triple cooked chips. He absolutely loved it. Somehow they manage to be extremely warm, friendly, professional and formal at the same time. We would honestly come back every night if we could.”
“Love this spot, some of the best sandwiches and bread I’ve had (Coming from a Dutch person). Great service and good prices. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I think of is walking over to Polentoni.”
“Why did it take me so long to come here? Food! Service and atmosphere all on point! Very enjoyable night! Can’t wait to come back and work our way through the menu!! Great job!”
“Absolutely incredible Italian restaurant! The food is all made in-house and you can really taste the passion and quality in every dish. It feels like fine dining, but with a very original twist that makes it stand out from anywhere else in Edinburgh. The flavours are authentic yet creative, and everything is beautifully presented. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a real Italian experience with a unique touch!”
“Hands down amazing. The very best food we had during our stay in Edinburgh. Authentically Italian, the staff were fantastic. Will 100% be coming again then next time we visit”
“There are not enough stars... What a fabulous dining experience! I love the concept, and the execution. Sean and Keith have created something which feels unique and special - a fine dining experience which is relaxed and unpretentious, and fun! The concept: one long table which seats up to 10, in front of the kitchen, where you can watch and interact with the two chefs as they go about their business. The execution: ... And what business! Michelin star level food, all freshly prepared and dished out in front of you. It's fun - lots of fun - to watch how they efficiently and masterfully run their kitchen, dovetailing and complementing each other. They have perfected the timing of the evening - 7+ dishes over 4 hours, and it all just... Flows. Not rushed, not slow, just perfect. The food: next level. A riot of flavour, colour, and presentation. Every dish is distinctly different from the last, and the flavours... I don't have the words. Absolutely delicious from start to finish. (Note: there are no allowances for allergies / dislikes, so if you can't eat what is put in front of you this is not the restaurant for you.) I wanted to wipe every plate with my finger, it was hard letting even a sliver of the fabulous flavours return to the kitchen. I had the standard wine pairing, and it's a delight as Sean introduces you to each: the region, the grape, the vineyard, and the notes and tastes to expect. I'm not a seasoned expert, but each seemed perfectly paired with the dish it was matched to, and every wine was delicious. Excellent value for money. Sincere compliments and thanks to Sean and Keith, not just for the food but the entire experience. They are wonderful hosts, and create a real down-to-earth, relaxed atmosphere which enhances the evening. And they genuinely seem to be having fun while they do it! Embarrassing end note: I had the wine pairing, wifey did not. Yet somehow she left me to pay. No problem: take machine, enter tip, tap card. Only... Tip enters as pence, not pounds. Shambles. Sean, lovely bloke that he is, had the good grace not to react and acted like nothing had happened. Hopefully the 5 star review is small recompense - I'll make it up the next time I'm in town! Cannot recommend The Table highly enough. Everyone should try to experience it at least once. Might become an annual tradition for us!”
“It was our first time coming to Michael’s, the waiter guided us what we can eat because we only eat halal and non-alcoholic food. So there were only a few options for us in the menu. While waiting the for our food, they served us with a bread (which has this unique taste, love it!) For starter, we ordered the pan fried scallops (5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) For our mains, i ordered a vegetarian dish, beetroot with eggs and my girlfriend ordered seabass with mussels velouté. Both dishes were super delicious! (5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) As for our dessert, we shared a white chocolate and raspberry blondie. It was too sweet for me but my girlfriend enjoyed it! (4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️). I would recommend this place, and surely come again! Hopefully they can add a few halal options :)”
“My partner and I went to this stunning cafe for breakfast, food was amazing this was our second visit. People are lovely, We will be going again soon.”
“Popped in after the gym this morning. Picked up a couple of nutella cookies to take home and wow, they are the divine. By far the best cookie I've had in Scotland. Will be back”
“Great Greek food in Edinburgh! Family owned spot with authentic Greek food options and large portions. Everything we ordered was very flavorful and felt like being in Greece again. We chose the bread basket, tzatziki, pita pita (grilled chicken fillet with pita bread) and the yaourtlou. The bread was nicely grilled with a good covering of olive oil, salt and oregano. Addicting! The tzatziki was as they serve it in Greece and definitely a must order for the table. The chicken fillet was tender and very flavorful, served with thick cut fries. Finally the yaourtlou was delicious with a good serving of red tomato sauce, yogurt, herbs and spices with a large soutzoukaki portion. Happy to have come across this place while in Edinburgh!”
“Great overall: really excellent food, service and atmosphere combined with reasonable prices and substantial serving sizes. Go hungry and often! My wife and I split the Zucchini fritters starter (light and crisp) and the apple pie dessert (one of the best I have had in years). She got the cauliflower schnitzel (again light and crispy) with excellent peas and potatoes. I had the pork roulade - very savory with fluffy potato dumplings. I will go again.”
“This was absolutely one of my favorite stops on my trip to Scotland. The service is superior and the eye of detail is exceptional. I was here with my mother who is disabled, they escorted us to the lift and made sure it was easy for my mother to get around and was comfortable. I see the passion they have with sharing history and information about Prestonfield House, it's such a spendlor to look at all the decor and details of literally every corner of the estate. We came for afternoon tea and it was everything and more than I could have imagined. The food was top notch and the flavors were so fun to explore coming from the states. Black pepper on Scottish strawberries, chefs kiss ”
“It is a dining experience worth every £ we paid. Congratulations to the chefs and the kind staff who served us. We will definitely come again.”
“Great view! Service was with a smile. Portion size is just right so you can actually finish your meal! Beautiful french food.”
“Food was excellent and very well priced. Place is busy! Went on a Monday evening and was lucky to get a table. Very loud inside. The decor could maybe do with an update. Would recommend booking!”
“Now offering a pop up restaurant on a Friday and Saturday evening. The food was fantastic modern Italian cooked with lots of love and served by the good folk that help create it. You can bring your own wine and the prices are such good value. What can I say ciao Elliott!”
“Student discount applies for food only. Love their soup & panini - cappuccino and chai latte are not bad!”
“Wonderful - a must visit, must see, must eat, if you are in Lieth. Bagel was awesome with an egg cooked in the middle, so many seasames too, and the apple tea was so delicate and delicous like eating crisp red apples.”
“We had the chef’s special tapas. Both foods and service were great.”
“The terrine was delicious. The steak with pepper sauce was really good. The chicken breast was pretty plain but the blue cheese sauce was delicious. House wine is good. Service was excellent. It’s a small cramped space - just like a Paris bistro should be!”
“A really nice place, a kind of stylish but also rustic. And the food is really delicious, the lunch menu allows a selection of various options. Especiallly the starter (lion‘s mane) and the dessert made me happy. A really nice fine dining option in Edinburgh.”
“Adored it. Lovely service. Relaxed atmosphere and a comfortable place. Nice attention to detail on the food. Even simple things like chips were served hot, crisp, correctly salted. The carrots were fantastic. The bread pudding is great. I had the beef for dinner which was really nice. My friend had the pork belly which looked amazing.”
“Great all around! Our friends who now live in our town in the US, recommended this place so we naturally wanted to try. They didn’t disappoint! We loved the flexibility of the hostess. When we inquired about a table without a reservation, she was very willing. The ambience is very pretty, cozy & romantic by the window. The food was well seasoned and definitely fresh. Do not miss the Stornoway Black Pudding. It’s really delicious! We ordered Lamb rump, Duck leg, Sea bass & Cod. Our favorites were the last 3 only because we are not “rare” meat eaters and the lamb was served so. I still enjoyed it tho! I loved their mocktails! So good! They had sides that were also fantastic! The cheesy and creamy cauliflower were amazing!! You gotta try!”
“Down a dark side street lies this hidden gem of a café. The service was friendly, warm, and prompt. The atmosphere was dark and comfortable. The food was outstanding. I had an excellent salad of roasted pumpkin with pesto and crowdie cheese. Best squash dish I've ever tasted. The sea trout I had next was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and served over rich white beans with Spanish chorizo. I would recommend this café to anyone visiting Edinburgh.”
“The best dinner of our life. Every dish was simply delicious, the flavours were like nothing we've ever tasted before. We loved the Thai Tartare, the Chicken Katsu and the Popcorn Baked Alaska, but my personal favourite was the Duck Breast. The price are also very reasonable (I'd recommend the 3 course for £38 deal), and the impeccable service made us feel comfortable and satisfied. Can't recommend enough!”
“I used to come here years ago when I lived in Edinburgh, and am delighted that the quality hasn't declined at all. The food is a bit pricey but worth it for the quality of ingredients and cooking. The restaurant is a beautiful place to be, and the service was attentive. One of my favourite places to eat in Edinburgh.”
“We were thoroughly pampered by Keith and Emma and their team, our evening was seamlessly executed from start to finish with the staff engaging, knowledgeable and eager to please. Matthew’s food was beautiful in every course and we loved every dish and accompanying wine - he needs to trademark that Cullen skink canapé for sure!!! Thoroughly recommend- great experience!!!”
