In a purposefully extravagant, indulgent pre-Christmas jaunt to Edinburgh; afternoon tea at the Spence, dinner at the Balmoral, cashmere by the bundle at Kiltane, Cafe St Honore was the absolute standout. The food is exceptional: seasonal, beautifully cooked and simply delicious. We left sated, happy and, perhaps, just a mite tipsy. The service is warm, welcoming and charming. One aspect that is almost a lost art: the courses were well-paced and unhurried, we were given time to enjoy ourselves. The restaurant itself is so pretty, intimate, atmospheric; you feel as though you have cleverly happened upon a real gem (of course I hadn't, I just read deservedly glowing reviews like this one).

I wanted to share a special story about my time dining at Cafe St Honore. 4 years ago when I met my wife she introduced me to this fine restaurant that she had been dining at for 10 years whilst visiting from America. We spent every Valentines day, anniversary, birthday and the restaurant even hosted our wedding dinner in October 2024. I would come to every stall I could every Saturday morning at Castle Terrace for the Cottage Pie. We came here for Sunday Roast and it was exquisite. The restaurant catered for my wife's allergies with with no fuss as they have done so for over 10 years, expertly cooking a stunning thick cut steak with a jus that was like liquid gold. Please give this place your full attention and they will take care of you as they have for me over the years Thank you to Neil and the team for a memorable experience as we depart Edinburgh for a new adventure.

Down a dark side street lies this hidden gem of a café. The service was friendly, warm, and prompt. The atmosphere was dark and comfortable. The food was outstanding. I had an excellent salad of roasted pumpkin with pesto and crowdie cheese. Best squash dish I've ever tasted. The sea trout I had next was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and served over rich white beans with Spanish chorizo. I would recommend this café to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

We were drawn here by the 44 Scotland Street novels, and are glad that we were. Great interiors, lovely staff and really tasty food. What more could you want. I highly recommend.

The overall environment is excellent, with the warm glow of candles creating a romantic and intimate atmosphere, which was a major reason we chose this restaurant for our Valentine’s Day celebration. The service was also impressive—our waitress was attentive and always available whenever we needed assistance. We appreciated the small but thoughtful gesture of helping to hang our jackets. However, the food did not meet our expectations. The starters were acceptable, but the main courses were rather disappointing. While the restaurant exudes a sense of luxury, with a set dinner menu offering only a few select options, we found the dishes themselves lacking in quality. I ordered the pork as my main course, but it was overly oily and fatty, making it difficult to finish. Although I could see that the chef had put thought into the presentation and details, the overall taste was underwhelming. My partner opted for a medium-cooked steak with chips. Unfortunately, she found the steak to be undercooked on the inside, while the exterior was burnt and had an unpleasant, aged taste. The chips were overly soft, lacking any crispness, and seemed to be saturated with oil. Additionally, the snacks were excessively sweet, which further detracted from our dining experience. The total bill came to £133 for two people, which is in line with what one would expect from a high-end restaurant. However, given the disappointing quality of the food, we felt that the experience did not justify the price. This left us feeling somewhat dissatisfied, and it ultimately put a slight damper on what was meant to be a special Valentine’s Day celebration.

Lovely little tucked-away place. Beautifully appointed French bistro. We ate the 3 course menu: the salad was absolutely fresh, pork was crispy and delicious, and the dessert was light and flavorful. If we lived in Edinburgh we'd be here at least once a month!

Beautiful restaurant with lovely menu and quiet place downstairs for a group of 8. Service was great and food was delicious. Definitely one of the best we have eaten at in Edinburgh.

Great French bistro - delicious food, attentive staff and a good wine list, including a range of wines by the glass. Friendly, relaxed ambience on a Thursday night. Highly recommended.

Cute little French bistro in a hidden back street in Edinburgh. With so many restaurants closed or open with restricted hours when I visited, the experience here was perfect with no fuss polite, patient and friendly service from all the staff making for a relaxed dining atmosphere. Food was delicious with an extensive wine menu, and a fresh daily menu and specials. Only issue is it was on the slightly expensive side for this kind of dining but portion sizes were decent!
