Vv busy but.not enough staff to give e great service. Mussels decent but garlic butter should not have been put on in solid form. Should have been melted and poured on before serving. Beef a bit disappointing with mash and only side roast potato? Deserts nice. We had cheese and it was a nice selection but tiny. We had a cocktail and wine so quite pricey.

Been enjoying the food at Cafe Marlayne for many years. Its a nice little cosy restaurant with good service and seasonally fresh beautiful food. Cullen Skink was utterly delicious and the beef was super tasty. Dessert choice wasn't for me but they all looked good going to other tables. Hubby enjoyed the cheeseboard. I'm back with a friend who also adores this little gem in a couple of nights. Jacqui M

Café Marlayne feels authentically French. There's a cosy and comfortable atmosphere although the flashing fairy lights along one side of the dining room should be turned to a less distracting setting. The food is quite simple bistro fayre, but expertly cooked and perfectly seasoned. I would recommend the duck. Service is exemplary.

Visited last night Oct 11th 2025 for a meal for three of us after what I now know to be too long a time. The greeting was very friendly and welcoming, the restaurant is fairly small and has a lovely cosy atmosphere. Let me start by saying we all have reasonable expectations for eating out and this restaurant met them all in every way. Service was excellent and just attentive enough. The food was truly excellent, I had the jambon starter which was extremely tasty with nice moist ham and a nice helping of remoulade. We all had their gnocchi vegetarian main which we all thought was excellent, nice portion sizes with beans and courgette with a nicely tasty sauce of perfect consistency. The accompanying vegetables were beautiful, - plentiful, freshly and perfectly cooked. Our sweets of panna cotta and frangipane tart were a lovely finishing touch. We highly recommend visiting and will certainly do so again ourselves. Only one of us had a starter but at £150 including drinks and service charge for 3 I think this is excellent value.

Lunch fabulous at Café Marlayne (76 Thistle Street) which I can highly recommend! I started with PATE DE POISSON (Arbroath smokie pate, horseradish, creamy cheese) and then PITHIVIERS DE LAPIN (Rabbit, leek and aged cheddar in butter puff pastry with grain mustard sauce) my main. Excellent service, excellent food!

As always Cafe Marylane delivers beautifully on flavours and service. We enjoyed perfectly cooked duck breast and Scottish lamb chops. Slightly dismayed that the set menu was a little predictable but understand that concessions have to be made because the restaurant is small, and very well patronised.

First time visiting and would certainly go again. Food was some of the best we had anywhere, and we have eaten at many good restaurants. Service perfect. Great atmosphere. Food superb and the right quantity. Will be back.

Disappointing to say the least. Despite arriving first as the restaurant opened at 6pm on Friday evening we were last to have our drinks order taken. The vegetables were my hot and two of the party shared a duck breast for their main course. The older of the two female servers was sullen and looked as though she’d rather have been somewhere else. I’ve been before for lunch and our experience was entirely different, but beware of inconsistency. Not worth the money.
