I used to come to The Rising Sun every Friday for lunch in the 1990s for 4 years, when working locally. When visiting Bristol after 20+ years overseas in 2022, I crossed Bristol for a couple of pints in the evening. Back again in 2025 on a rainy December Wednesday lunchtime, the food is sublime, the beer is out of this world and later today it will be busy.

This was our second visit for Sunday lunch. Already looking forward to booking another one! Food was amazing and such good value for money, including the price of the drinks. Plenty to eat and side dishes of veg were all well cooked - not al dente. The pistachio ice cream was to die for - I even asked if I could buy a tub of it to take away. Brilliant Sunday lunch. Will be back.

Went here today for a roast, the service was awful and we were waiting ages for our food,8 had to go ask how much longer our food would take to come. The beef is described on the menu as being cooked to medium, however mine and my brothers was very much well done. Also we had one small dish of vegetables and cauliflower cheese to share between three people was not enough, it doesn’t clearly state this on the menu it seems as though you would get your own side of vegetables and cauliflower cheese. Was very disappointed as I had heard good things about here - won’t come back here again

Outstanding food. As a northerner down south, I cannot explain how delighted I was to find a local pub that does pies as good as the Rising Sun! Consistently the best I've had in years. Burgers excellent too. Nice range of ales to boot. Works great for all sorts of occasions: couples for a nice meal, work social with the skittle alley, dog friendly and welcoming to all, so when friends visit, we bring them here. It was by chance the first place we went for food on the day we moved house and we have never been disappointed since.

We were able to agree exclusive use of the restaurant/ conservatory for our family wedding reception on Saturday. The team at the Rising Sun were very helpful with the arrangements and helped set up the conservatory according to our seating plan. A family friend arrived early to decorate the room and it looked lovely. We had to pre order our food, but that meant we all got to choose exactly what we wanted. So much better than a set menu. All the good arrived on time, was hot and tasty, with generous portions. Huge portions of pudding were gratefully received. Thank you to the team at the Rising Sun for helping make our wedding day so special. Best of all, for many of us, it was a short walk home! Thanks again from Steve and Melissa, the new Mr and Mrs Hunt, x

Good value midweek lunch. Service a bit slow. No atmosphere as pub was empty..

I am highly disappointed from my recent booking today 5-3/23 at 12pm. My gf booked online for 2 persons. We were seated in the dining room , not the conservatory which was kinda ok initially although the decor felt like a holiday inn room. The Meal came quickly yet we were expected to share 1 tiny platter of veg and a small ramekin of cauliflower cheese, thought the server would bring the next portion of veg but nothing came . How is a single meal the same veg and cauliflower cheese for a couple when it’s double the price ? My dinner was not enough of a portion either. If this wasn’t bad enough that our dinner wasn’t fully equipped we had the whole football team next to us drinking eating crisps , swearing , shouting , my girlfriend being pregnant is not something I want to be around or expect when having a roast dinner in a dining area. Not once did the server offer to move us , check on us ( my dinner needed more gravy , where as my partners was swimming in it ), we were just left there. I couldn’t even speak to my partner during our whole meal and couldn’t wait to leave. The ambience was of a social club not a family dining. This was our first time and we are local residents and will not be returning or recommending. I would of complained whilst I was there but I just couldn’t wait to leave and the bar server wouldn’t of been able to hear me and I didn’t fancy shouting across the bar to explain my dissatisfaction. (We had to fight our way through the people at the bar drinking and queuing to get anyone’s attention and pay) I paid £34.35 for this disaster. If you are out with mates then it’s ok to drink but with a partner or kids avoid like the plague

Nice pub, friendly staff and serves good food. I was with a party of 6 and was seated in the conservatory and we all had Sunday roasts which were very good. Also, a good selection of beer/ales available.

Went for Sunday lunch, even though it was quite full, we got served in a reasonable time, staff cheerful and helpful. The food was very nice, I will go again

Excellent Sunday roast and very good brownie w/ custard. A bit out of the standards, but very good!!!
