We visited The Clifton Sausage to celebrate my husband’s birthday and were really looking forward to the evening. We were seated at one of the two bar tables which didn’t seem like an issue at first. However, partway through our main course a large group of drunk men arrived at the bar. They were extremely loud and repeatedly bumped into our table; we even had to move our side dishes to stop them being knocked over as people squeezed past. One person sat at the table behind us and kept hitting the back of my chair while talking loudly, which made it impossible to relax or enjoy the meal. I asked if we could move and the staff were helpful and found us a quieter table, although my husband had to wait several minutes before someone was free to help carry the plates over. Once moved, we were able to enjoy the rest of our evening. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and accommodating, but the experience at the bar table really put a dampener on what should have been a lovely birthday celebration. I don’t think these bar tables should be included as standard dining reservations, especially when the bar is actively in use; it completely changes the atmosphere. If we had known we’d be seated there, we would have chosen a different time or a different restaurant. It would be much better if these tables were reserved for walk-ins or if customers were informed at the time of booking. Overall, great food and service, but being seated at a bar table during a busy period significantly impacted our experience and i wouldnt visit again unless we could be guaranteed a spot in the main restaurant.

An absolutely amazing experience at a Bristol institution. I hadn't been for about 10 years but recently visited as a big group for a friend's birthday lunch. The food was fantastic, service amazing, and can't fault anything. Highly recommended! And dog friendly to boot.

We liked it so much we visited twice during our stay in Bristol. The sausages are the best I've ever had; the Pork, Leek and Stilton are just sublime!

Absolute gem to visit. While team is lovely, friendly and true embodiment of hospitality. Sausages are fantastic, quality, real food, actually made fresh, with exciting daily mash and other additions. Very friendly atmosphere. It's a true local business that cares about food.

Food was okay, but nothing special, definitely overpriced for what it is. Small portions as well, hardly any mashed potato and surprisingly the leaf on top didn't make up for that. Service was also slow, we booked for 1:45 and got our food at 2:30. Asked for gravy in a jug rather than on the roast dinner, but they still poured it on and brought it out like a soup. Then they add 10% onto the bill for a tip. If you're hungry, don't go here.

It’s real simple - it’s sausage and mash. It’s also real good! There are other options on the menu but that would be rather missing the point. The pigs in blanket and sausage roll starters should not be missed and the coffee was also startlingly excellent (it is Clifton after all)

Lovely atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff that provided a good service. I ordered the tasting plate, which came with 4 large sausages (lamb and mint, beef, traditional pork and the Clifton). The Clifton sausage was definitely my favourite, followed by the lamb. The beef and traditional pork were nice, but lacked the wow factor for me. The gravy was tasty and the mash was lovely and smooth. The service was a little slow, but overall a lovely place to go and eat and good value for money.

Visited for the first time Clifton Sausage during a nice evening on a Saturday. We ordered couple of Tasting Plates but also the Special Sausages of the day. Food was tasty and fresh and arrived relevantly quickly. Staff were kind and helped us to choose our meals. Dessert was extremely tasty, make sure you order the Toffee one!
