Charming compact, but cosy little pub tucked away in a corner of Waverley Steps. Interesting selection of ales, and a fascinating collection of malt whiskies. Small kitchen serving a limited selection of food including tasty haggis, neaps, snd tatties. A stone's throw away from Edinburgh Waverley Station, so very handy for stopping off at between trains.

We found this little hidden pub going down some stairs. We were lucky to get seats as it’s a small place but loved our drinks and the sausage roll we had. Nice chill guy behind the bar.

I found this place while wandering Edinburgh and made a note to stop in one night. On my last night in the city, I made true to my word and stopped by for a couple glasses of scotch. The pub is small, quiet, and very cozy which makes it the perfect place to sit and enjoy a couple of drinks by yourself or with a couple of mates. The service was top-notch and I enjoyed sitting at the bar chatting with a Canadian couple who were visiting as well as having a long conversation with the barman about scotch whiskies. Overall, this was a fabulous place that I would highly recommend popping into while in Edinburgh.

Great pub with friendly staff - and superb pours of Guinness. If you’re looking for sustenance including food then you will need to look elsewhere, however for drinks this is a cosy, convivial pub which would be hard to go wrong with. I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Best Guinness I’ve had in a while. Lovely Scottish ales as well and local cider. Definitely recommend

Reputedly the smallest pub in Edinburgh. It certainly is one that should be visited. Excellent real ale and a warm and friendly welcome. We last visited many, many years ago and "found" it again yesterday. Still the most fabulous pub. Situated "halfway" down the steps from Old Town to Waverley. A real gem!!!!

This pub is such a hidden gem right at the base of Fleshmarket Close, where we happened to be staying during our visit to Edinburgh. We stopped in for the sheer convenience, and immediately felt comfortable in this cozy little spot. There were just a few others there, so our group of 5 easily found a table to gather around. The bartender was super friendly and offered great suggestions to suit our individual tastes. She was also a saint for dealing with some of the patrons who couldn't seem to take last call for an answer. The space is pretty small, so we ended up befriending the group of locals who were there and barhopping with them when it closed around 11pm. Overall we were enamored with Halfway House and I would encourage anyone visiting old town not to overlook it!
