The food is amazing, it's best to choose the three little dishes for one person as the amount on each dish is sufficient for a whole meal.
Booked a table for my wife and I after looking at the online menu. On arrival staff were welcoming and helpful. It’s a shame that most of the menu was not available now. The wife decided to order the listed starter - Pigs in blankets. A unique dish, hole molly it looks like the sausages where still alive with a slither of rasher wrapped around them to keep warm. Hadn’t even finished our ‘starter’ when our luke warm mains arrived. I got the steak pie, the meat was ok, no fatty parts and the pastry was nice. The wifes balmoral chicken was terrible, so she left half of it and to be honest by this point it was cold anyway. Wouldn’t recommend, wont be back, advise you to go elsewhere if you want a meal.
Great Pub/restaurant. Kind of an upscale pub. Great shareable on the menu! The fish and chips were awesome as was the halloumi! Staff was friendly and service was quick. Really enjoyed our dinner and drinks!
On 28th September 2025, I visited this PuB for our lunch with my wife. All staff were so good. Our ordered cuisines were also very good. There was very comfortable place. I look forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!
Joshua did a subtle soft sell of the Haggis Fritters to this old Louisiana Cajun. I had to declare they were “ c'est bon”. The haggis fritters tasted a bit like boudin balls without the rice. The Belhaven Stout was full tasting without being heavy on the tongue. So if you’re a first time Haggis eater, then head on down to the Advocate and ask for Joshua.
Lovely little dog friendly pub. There were 5 adults and an infant in our party and we all had different meals which were lovely. I had the burger and chips and the burger was a proper steak burger and was delicious. My Grandson who's 13 months had the sausage, mash and veg which makes a nice change from the usual nugget/ fish fingers and chips. The price was good, £85 for 6 meals with drinks and the service was excellent. Can highly recommend.
Atmosphere was great, Fantastic fish and chips light and not greasy at all, a very tasty chicken burger, amazing iPa draught, very nice and polite ladies. Would definitely revisit

It is my second time here and I can say the food never disappoints. Steak and ale pie is really tasty and the staff is very friendly. I can definitely recommend it
Great lunch right off the Royal Mile with amazing toasties…Eleanor was top notch and made us feel right at home especially since we had our 13 month old daughter with us..kid friendly, great food, and a laid back atmosphere…will definitely be going back!
