Amazing menu beautiful surroundings. Everything cooked to perfection ...great wines and service by attentive staff. Made our evening very special.
Horrendously expensive for an OK lunch. Restaurant is creepily dark. More ambient lighting needed. Menu mainly for carnivores. Why no lunchtime specials? Doubt will return.
Actually in the Chop and Ale House next to it. But it's all owned by the same people. The food is fabulous in here, some of the best steaks I've ever had. Service was very good and friendly as well. The only slight oddity to this place is you can't book you just turn up and wait. But the food is worth the wait in my opinion.
On arrival the staff were really nice and friendly, but the food was a real let down. Their prices are on par with the most expensive steak restaurants in edinburgh, but having been twice now they are nowhere near that quality. Every single thing on the menu is about as expensive as you’ll see anywhere, which is fine if they match it with quality. If you charge £22.50 for a burger, they have to be great. They were huge soft buns filled with mostly salad, and a really average overcooked burger. The chips tasted like they were cooked in the dirtiest, oldest frier and were inedible. If any chefs or staff tasted them, they’d know they weren’t acceptable. There are also just quirks of the place that there doesn’t seem to be any reason for, and are an inconvenience, such as them serving ketchup on to your plate, and they won’t leave any on the table, then when you run out you inevitably can’t find any staff. I appreciate it’s a small thing, but there’s a reason no other restaurant does this. They also don’t have a kids menu, which makes it pretty difficult to dine with younger people at all, and we had to order our son veg sides as a full size or steak wouldn’t really suit. We won’t be back unfortunately, which is a shame as we live so close, but it’s some of the worst value food we’ve had.
We arrived for a family birthday celebration ( 13 of us ) and from the start to finish it was the best dining experience we have had, the staff are fantastic and the food was 10/10. Think some of these so called top Edinburgh restaurants need to have a look at how to look after people like this. Well done all !
Went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. First of all, the old lady was quite rude when my mother in law ordered her food and told to have her steak medium rare, the lady kept asking what she wants… then other people who were white she served very nice, ask for hanging their jackets, but didn’t say a word to us about this. Never came to check if everything is good, just came to ask if we want to order more food, or when we were paying the bill. Also the style is a bit weird, all the waitresses where same age and dyed blond, as well as dressed up as maid. I felt awkward as I if am participating in a role play game. Didn’t expect this at all. Those girls where just standing straight and talking to each other. Didn’t came too often to serve us. The steak wasn’t the best to my taste, all covered in charcoals and the price is ridiculously high. The only highlight was the cheese cake they brought for my husband which was very good. They also brought a lot of chips for the steak, but we didn’t even finish it as it didn’t taste good. My last words I won’t come back and won’t recommend.
Drove a good distance to visit this restaurant, the staff were abrupt and unfriendly , service wasnt the best, food was very basic, our steaks where charcoaled crusty and black, and not a lot to offer with regards to veg to compliment meat. When paying bill we where asked if we enjoyed our meal and when I said not really, waitress quickly responded with attitude and got all defensive. Very overpriced and not worth the money! We won't be back.
Average food and over priced. steaks are all over cooked and charcoal staff are arrogant. Honestly felt embarrassed for the restraunt when they gave us the bill. Will never go back and would never recommend can get a better dinner at my local pub
What an amazing experience was there on Saturday for a wedding reception, had a private room and it was just like being in someone’s farmhouse kitchen. The waiter was fantastic didn’t get his name. The prawn cocktails was delicious actually all the starters looked delicious. Steaks to die for, unfortunately we didn’t have time for pudding, I must also add that their own red wine was also fantastic, looking to book again soon.
This is my favourite restaurant in the whole world. I will return time and time again to experience the cosy atmosphere, eat a delicious meal and converse with the staff who are charming and exquisite at their jobs. I believe Champany Inn is a must visit and I cannot wait until I get the chance to visit again!
