The lovely doorman hit (whacked) my friend before she had a chance to show her ID. We were no longer interested in going in, but they would not let me say a word without being interrupted. All I had wanted to do was ask whether he would be open to apologising for any misunderstanding from either party. Did not get to try the pub's haggis, fish and chips, drinks or space. But for sure never interested anymore. My friend is shocked, and I'm equally not understanding how things could have escalated so quickly. Shake my head, disappointing a nice looking spot like this in central Edinburgh could be like this.

Tourist-Trap at it's best. Very overprized drinks, and overprized but at best mediocre food: - more than 7 £ for a pint of beer. If bottled, you even need to pour it yourself. - food price okay for Edinburgh, but relative small portion and the food is mediocre in quality and taste. - soft drinks are 30 % ice (see picture) - no nice presentation of the food: sauces are served in manufacturer's plastic box.

Atmosphere is lovely, it does feel like a bit of a tourist trap but the decor gives the place a nice vibe. Cocktails are pricey but they're actually really decent. The bar staff are decent and the bouncer seems to keep on top during the day/evening so the crowd is calm. Overall a nice experience for a couple of a group, will definitely go again at some point.

Really tasty food and friendly service. We had the Haggis Neeps and Tatties, the Soup and Sandwich deal, soup of the day was mushroom, and we chose a BLT sandwich, both were delicious. So good we ordered another BLT. The haggis was really good too. We also had Affogato and the Sticky Toffee for dessert. Again very tasty. Everything was reasonably priced too! Will come again when I'm next in Edinburgh and highly recommend to all.

The Newsroom Bar and Eatery is a great place to stop for a bite to eat or have a drink. The staff are all very friendly. I had the Haggis dish, it was delicious! The gravy was probably the best I ever had. We also had the fish and chips, also very good. As you can see the fish is a very good size. They also have a great selection of local beers. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Popped in, unplanned, as the kids fancied burgers and this place was close, and had good reviews. We were pleased we did. Chips were top notch. And the two carnivores really enjoyed their pulled pork hotdog and chicken burger. As the vegetarian, my moo-free burger was substantial and tasty. Would have been super helpful if the menu said what was vegetarian - it looked like some options throughout the menu were possibly veggie, but it didn't say, and there were only two options in the actual meat-free section. Would be great if it could be marked on the menu. It's a minor change that would help a lot if you don't want to make a fuss. All in all, though, a tasty and pleasant experience. Not top of the list to go back to, but nice.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Food is always nice. 5 minute walk from Edinburgh Playhouse. Which makes it perfect for us. We had starters of Broccoli & Stilton soup and Breaded mushrooms. The soup came with 3 large slices of sourdough bread and was really nice. The mushrooms were 3 massive pieces, about the length of my hand, served with a nice mayo dip and had a tomato salsa salad. The mushrooms were Crispy and moist and were really nice. Mains of Tequila Mocking Dog and fish and chips. The dog was superb, but was not smothered in sauce as claimed, but was nice along with Fries. The fish as always was very large. Nice Crispy batter and flakey fish was superb. The chunky chips were nice. Had a portion of onion rings which as usual were very large and crunchy. Looking forward to our next visit.

Had a nice lunch at The Newsroom! We all split some appetizers and had some nice alcoholic beverages. It is in a very ideal location, close to everything! Definitely a good place to stop by after a day of walking around and needing a break.

Located directly across from the new St James Centre, this restaurant is one of the best I have been to in Edinburgh. Extensive menu with loads to choose from, from fajitas to classic fish n chips to hot dogs. Dessert menu was short and sweet. Also a good selection of Christmas drinks and food which was a pleasant surprise. I've never seen a drinks menu with so much to choose from before, most specifically beers, gins and cocktails. Food and drinks were delicious. The environment in the place was lively but not overly so and we received a quick and wonderful welcome coming in from the cold. You have to go here! And we will definitely be back!
