Dismal experience at lunchtime. Ordered food (from a limited menu) but had to leave before we got it. Were not warned of any delays. Complained, but the person who claimed to be a manager made it absolutely clear that he did not care in the slightest and seemed to hold customers in utter contempt. Most unpleasant member of bar staff I've encountered in a long time. My previously good experience in St Austell houses has been severely dented.

A really bizarre experience. Last orders called at 10.10. When asking if I'd heard this right, I was told "yes, because we are a hotel". Are you serious? Listening to other drinkers comments, this new policy (the pub is now managed by St Austell Brewery), is going down like the Titanic. Lovely and apologetic guy told us he'd not rush us out - clearly it's not the decision of the staff that have to manage this. But, with plenty of options nearby, regulars can go elsewhere. By 10.30, 2 weeks from Christmas the place was like a morgue. The Wellington needs to work out what it is. It's a pub with maybe 2/3 rooms above it. I can't quite bring myself to give them 1 star, it's been a good pub over the years - but I've drank my last pint there.

Visited for Sunday lunch and had a lovely experience. The staff were super friendly, great portion of meat with the roast and amazing desserts! The sticky toffee is unreal. They also were really happy to help make an alteration to my dessert choice which was just really lovely.

Oh Thursday night, the week’s old friend, When work and woes begin to end. At The Wellington, the faithful flock, To test their brains and beat the clock. And there she stood — the quiz queen gemma, But no, not Gemma… our legend EMMA! With question sheets and mic in hand, She ruled that pub like trivia land. From general knowledge to music scores, From capital cities to dinosaur wars, She fired off rounds both fierce and fair, While pints and laughter filled the air. The tables buzzed, the pencils flew, As Emma grinned — “Right, round two!” A sports one next, we all went blank, (Except old Dave — he’s basically a tank). “Oh dear,” she said with a cheeky grin, “Guess again, you might just win!” And somehow, through the hazy din, We found our luck — a quiz-night win! The picture round? A test of sight! “That’s Boris… or is it Dwight?” The room went mad, confusion spread, (We wrote “Shrek” — close enough, we said). The music round — what a delight! From ABBA gold to Blur’s “Parklife.” Half the pub began to sing, And The Wellington walls did almost ring! Emma’s timing — sharp, precise, Her banter warm, her jokes concise. “You’re wrong — but close,” she’d sweetly tease, And somehow make defeat a breeze. Each score announced, suspense ran high, The losing team still aimed for pie. The winners cheered, the rest said “next week!” For Emma’s quiz is far from bleak. The beer was cold, the chips were hot, The laughter thick — we drank the lot! And in that pub, beneath its beams, We lived the Thursday quizzer’s dreams. So here’s to Emma, bright and bold, Whose quiz nights never once grow old. The Wellington thrives because she’s there — With humour, heart, and trivia flair. So if you’re free next Thursday eve, Don’t you dare think of trying to leave! Grab a pint, a pal, a pen — And join the best night ever again. For Thursday’s crown at The Wellington, Belongs to one — and only Emma-ton! (Alright, that rhyme was quite a stretch, But Emma’s quiz? The perfect catch!) ⭐ Verdict: Five stars, no doubt — she’s queen of the night, With brains, charm, and pure delight. The Wellington’s quiz is the week’s best treasure, Thanks to Emma — our host of pleasure!

I have had a wonderful experience being local to The Wellington! It opens at 8am so it has become a favourite 'work from home' spot where I can bring my dog - who absolutely loves it here. It is usually very quiet before lunch time so I can really put my head down and grab breakfast if I like. Becky is such a lovely staff member who has made us feel super welcome and happy to come back (especially my dog). The coffee and food is good and and I can spends hours without feeling pressured to buy anything. I have also had a roast here on a Sunday and I would also recommend the chicken skewers.

We stayed at the Wellington for one night for my husband's birthday. It's the perfect place to start a pub crawl. Our room was really comfortable and clean. The bed is comfortable with good pillows and I love the bathroom with a spacious shower. Great selection of tea in the room. The restaurant was jam packed last night due to the football match, but everything had quieted down by bedtime and in the morning it was nice and quiet. I would definitely stay again.

Really friendly & helpful staff. Lovely atmosphere. Great choice on the menu including vegan options. My mum had a vegan 'fish' & chips after her first choice wasn't available & she said it was one of the best meals out she'd ever had!

Stayed here for a single night and couldn’t have asked for much more. Ate lunch on arrival and the food was top notch and reasonably priced (2 mains and 2 alcoholic drinks came to £30). The rooms were modern, clean and spacious. Heating was perfect, huge bath was a bonus plus the TV and comfy bed. Parking on site was convenient, too. Didn’t have the breakfast and the only downside to our stay was a couple of early wake up calls but that could’ve been other guests which can’t be helped for the most part.

Great place to stay. Super room, clean and fresh with good selection of tea, coffee, hot choc etc and yummy biscuits too! So easy to have a tasty meal in the restaurant downstairs, then just go up to your room to relax. Wonderful staff, friendly and attentive, especially Julie, a special thank you, for being so thoughtful and kind in looking after us so well. The only thing missing, is the inclusion of a full English breakfast. Had a lovely stay - thank you! X
