Wonderful cafe for a spot of lunch. Great quality food and hearty portions! Lovely staff went out of their way to accommodate a dairy free picnic meal for my daughter too.

Robertshaws – The Bakery & Café, Brighouse Road, Kelham (Visited October 10th 2025) This is our own experience with this business, and we know different clients will have different experiences — but we always leave reviews based on the service we received when we ordered or visited. First Impressions Robertshaws – The Bakery & Café has a welcoming and homely feel as soon as you walk in. The café was busy with a steady flow of customers coming and going, which is always a good sign of a popular and well-loved local spot. The location is convenient, with a good-sized car park just off the main road and only a short distance from Robertshaws Farm Shop. Cleanliness & Safety Concerns The café was kept clean and tidy despite the busy morning rush. Tables were cleared promptly, and the open kitchen area looked well maintained. The bathroom facilities were easy to access and clean, which is always appreciated. Food Quality We stopped for breakfast, and even though the café was busy, our food arrived within about 20 minutes. The portion sizes were generous and very filling. Inside, a board displayed the Soup of the Day, Quiche of the Day, and other specials such as hot turkey and extras. The large kitchen window allows you to see cakes and other baked goods being prepared, which was a lovely touch and added confidence in the freshness and quality of the food. Ambience & Surroundings The café has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a cosy countryside feel that fits perfectly with its location. The constant turnover of customers created a lively but pleasant environment. It felt like a genuinely popular community spot where locals and visitors alike stop in for good food and friendly service. Service & Atmosphere The staff were friendly, polite, and handled the busy crowd very well. Despite how full the café was, they remained attentive and welcoming. Facilities There is plenty of parking available just off the main road, making it easy to visit even during busier times. The café also offers clean, accessible bathroom facilities, and the layout is spacious enough to move around comfortably. Being close to Robertshaws Farm Shop is an added bonus if you want to browse local produce, seasonal goods, decorative items etc after your meal. I hope this honest review helps others make an informed decision.

Very clean and good atmosphere. Clearly well loved, by the amount of people and cars regularly coming and going. Had coffee and cake with a very dear friend. Easy to find and reasonably priced.

We have been coming here for years, with the most unpredictable service ever. The odd day has been okay, then you get the more frequent times of when it isn't. One time, back when it was table service, a particular staff member took such a disliking to us that she said she'd take our order, then nearly an hour later all tables around had been, gone and reseated, and we still weren't seen to. On other trips, the same lady would finally take our order and scowl throughout. Not sure what we did wrong really other than sit down patiently! On our recent visit, we were served and it took 45 minutes to receive a tea and a coffee. Meanwhile, a larger group of bikers came in after us, were served hot food and drinks, and had made ready to leave yet still we were left. My wife queued up as the lady at the till laughed and joked with the bikers to ask for the drinks sorting, and as soon as she got to the front of the queue the server walked into the other room and ignored her. It took nearly ten minutes after that to get the drinks transferred into a takeout cup. It's a shame really as the food (mainly breakfast) is nice, but then there's been several occasions where we've just been ignored by staff. We usually go in every week for breakfast during term time but we're in no hurry to have that experience again.

Food was average. Went with a friend, and we both ordered the smashed avocado on toast (£8.99) that comes with halloumi fritters and 2 poached eggs. Both of us wanted it without the poached eggs. However, it arrived with the poached eggs on the toast. We told them we ordered it without eggs (thankfully, we have no allergies or health/diet related issues just a taste preference!) So they took the plates away and simply removed the eggs from the toast, which unfortunately left damp patches on the bread. This wasn't pleasant, as damp toast isn't very nice. The rest of it was OK, but on this occasion it wasn't good value for money, and service wasn't that good, as staff appeared put out that we didn't want it as it came. As allergies amongst customers can be an issue, staff should be more careful. Especially with known allergens like egg.

We came here in February 2023 and I must say we were very happy. We purchased some pork pies and I must say they were first class. The staff were really friendly and helpful and it was a wonderful environment to be in. If you like, good pies Then buy them from here do not buy them from the farm shop that is further down the road. This is the perfect place to get your wonderful pies cakes etc as they are baked fresh every day.

Disappointing. I’ve always loved the farm shop and only just heard there is now a cafe so was looking forward to trying it. It was very busy and we had to wait for a table. Didn’t mind that. That’s not their fault I thought it must mean it’s really good. Once we had a table we ordered 2 bacon and bri on sourdough. From the point of ordering it was just over half an hour before our food came. Half an hour for two sandwiches. I can’t really comment on the food as I’d got gradually more and more agitated thinking about the things I had to be back for I just couldn’t enjoy it. The solution to being so busy isn’t make customers wait half an hour. Less tables or more staff. No good having loads of tables you can fill if you can’t serve the customers sat at them. Also on a more superficial note. It’s a nice place. On the same lines as the farm shop. With nice food it’s not a greasy spoon. The plastic flowers on the tables are terrible. They don’t even look realistic. Either put real flowers on or some better quality artificial ones.

Very simple order toasted tea cake and 2 scones, tea cake very quickly it was really poor quality with know substance to the bread odd. Had to ask twice for the scones, one waiter I asked said he hadn't taken the order, I think that meat he wasn't going to ask where the scones where, has to ask again, they weren't fresh. Disappointed. And the whole things made worse by one table had had a beautifully behaved child however the parent had no volume control and was sharing a conversation with the whole cafe, dreadful and that isn't the cafe fault but equally I wish people would challenge this ...I did I think I almos round of applause from the cafe.t got

Go during the week if you can - queues are out of the door at weekends! Friendly staff, and great food at sensible prices. Will definitely be back!

Waited ages to be served breakfast. 2 breakfasts came out missing items stated on the menu and had to be sent back. Poached eggs not cooked so had to be sent back again. Mushrooms are tinned. Hollandaise sauce is tastless. I love the farm shop and my expectations of the cafe were to receive the same standards. Unfortunately my expectations were not met. Will not come again.
