Head Chef Alex was a wonderful host and the Big BBQ Platter was absolutely incredible and well worth the asking price of £30 (could easily split it between 3 people and all feel full afterwards). The spiced apple and maple biscoff crumble was to die for. Perfect for a cold night and reminded me of the crumble I had as a child. Very excited to try to rest of the new menu. Highly recommend to anyone, one of the best pubs… pizza is amazing and staff are extremely friendly and give a local feeling to a city pub, both before and after the renovation I’ve had good experiences.

I would like to thank the young lady behind the bar (19 Aug 25) for being very apologetic for the quiz being unexpectedly cancelled but pointing me in the direction of an alternative not far away. This meant I did not have the opportunity to sample their good selection of ales. And the pub was subsequently very quiet. Also thank you to the owner who replied to my request for information for this one time visiting the city.

Outstanding Service from Megan at The Playwright I don’t usually write reviews, but the service I received from Megan at The Playwright Pub was absolutely worth shouting about. From the moment I walked in, she made the experience welcoming and memorable. Megan strikes the perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness. She was attentive without ever being overbearing, always checking in at the right time, and her knowledge of the menu and drinks selection was spot on. She made great recommendations that genuinely enhanced the evening. What stood out most was how she seemed to treat every guest with the same care and energy, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere around the table. It’s rare to see someone who not only takes pride in their work but also makes you feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer. The Playwright is a brilliant spot in Nottingham, and Megan’s outstanding service takes it to another level. If you’re heading there, you’ll be in great hands if she’s looking after you.

Alex was a brilliant quiz host—fun and engaging without dragging it out. The pizza from the oven was delicious, fresh and hot, and the drinks were spot on. A great mix of good food, good atmosphere, and a bit of friendly competition. Would definitely go again!

Great service by a lovely young lady called Lana, very friendly and happy to help me out. We enjoyed the drinks and food very much! Therefore I would also like to give credit to the Chef Harry in regard to the quality and taste of our food, the pizzas were particularly delicious! We cant wait to come again!

Absolutely love this pub! Fantastic service, food is always tasty and reasonably priced! Not just for students either - would recommend

Nice atmosphere, and some nice staff. Have been in for a Sunday roast twice now. The first time was decent for the price and we got all that you would expect. This time 3/4 of us were missing carrots, and all our other veg was very undercooked. Extremely crunchy broccoli and peas (didn't think peas were that hard to cook) Overall a nice place, although it is a bit on the expensive side

We performed here as part of the Nottinham Improvised Comedy Smash night! Intimate venue with lovely atmosphere. Great pizzas to fuel us through our set!

The Playwright, formerly known as the Orange Tree near Trent University. I reckon it is more of a place where University staff and students go - due to its vicinity to campus. The interior is very much what you would imagine if you heard the words "English pub". The place is dog friendly and offers a good range of drinks and food and it is quite decent food at that too. I loved my Harissa Halloumi Kebab, it was delicious. The next time I go, I will try the quesadilla.
